Caritas [Thursday evening]

When Robin wandered into Caritas on Thursday evening, Tino was nowhere to be found, but a note regarding his shunning of Robin was on the bar.

Evidently he'd discovered he'd have to work next Thursday for her.

It had come to Romeo's attention that he'd been in Fandom over a month, and *still* had not found the bar that didn't card.

So tonight, he was rectifying that enormous wrong.

"Good e'en, might I have a raspberry vodka tonic?," he asked the brunette behind the bar. It wasn't his usual drink, but Annette's had been really good.

Every time that Robin thought that the town was done being weird at her, some kid came along and talked funny.

"Sure," she said slowly, preparing the drink and eyeing the boy carefully before setting it before him.

Romeo took the drink and smiled a grateful smile at the bartender. he knew he was getting examined, he just wasn't sure why.

"I thank thee," he said, taking a sip. "Hast thou worked here long?"

"I...hast worked here a few months," she said carefully.

Huh? Oh, right, verb conjugation. Romeo slooooowed dooooown. "Then you have my advantage," he said. "I was new at the start of this term, and this is my first time in this establishment. Well, as myself."

Belatedly, he remembered Frank had come. And probably not tipped.

"You had the weird out-of-body experience thing, too?" she asked sympathetically.

Romeo snorted. "Aye. He was a villain and stole from me. Who did you get?"

"Um. Myself at sixteen, kind of," she said, choosing not to elaborate. "Did anyone warn you before it happened?"

"You cannot have been so bad, even as a teen," Romeo said, out of blissful ignorance. "And I was warned about many other things, but no, not that."

"Oh, no, I was," she assured him. "And see I just got the general 'things're weird here, also there were dinosaurs one time' warning."

"How?" Romeo asked, genuinely curious. He was imagining acne and braces.

The mention of dinosaurs made him smile. "The one I only heard of last week was jello dragons. I am still not over that, quite."

"I knew about those and still don't believe in them," she admitted. "I mean come on. Jello? Really?"

She heaved a sigh, and added, "I was a teenage pop star. In Canada. My hair was big and my song was really earwormy."

"I know! And I was trying to find out how they were slain, and the person I talked to admitted he had seen them only in simulation, and run even then," Romeo flailed. "So I suppose it is a mystery."

He winced a little at Robin's self-description. That did sound kind of bad. "I can see why that would not be a time in your life to cherish," he said. "Should I buy you a drink for making you explain it?"

Brooke looked over, greeting Romeo with a smile. "You've found my new favorite place," she said.

"My big brother spoke true, they didn't card," Romeo said, delighted both by this fact and to see Brooke. "Have you been coming here a lot?"

"I've made the rounds once or twice," she said, though her rounds were kind of a little more than that. "Gotta love a place where you don't actually need your fake ID. I might get spoiled."

"I know," Romeo said. "It was one of the first things John Sheppard told me about this town, yet it took me all month to get here, not counting the weekend when I was not myself." He shook his head in dismay. "But I am here now, and in good company too."

"Glad I can entertain," she smiled. "You can make up for all the lost time over the month now."

"But if I make it all up at once, you should have to carry me back to the dorms. And I might sing on the way, too." He sounded very convinced this would be Bad. "So I will have to make it up a little each time I come."

Whether he sounded convinced or not, Brooke was intrigued. "You might sing, huh? How much would it take to get you onstage?"

"More than I have now, and possibly more than they have here," Romeo decided. "I do not have a good voice. I have rather the opposite." And now he was leaning toward Brooke, wondering if she'd try to talk him into it.

He probably would, too. He'd warned her, after all.

"No one's ever a good judge of what they sound like," said Brooke, signaling the bartender for another of whatever Romeo was having. Because she was helpful like that.

Romeo wasn't sure why this was the week cute girls were trying to get him drunk, but he wasn't exactly objecting. He took his second vodka tonic and sipped it. "What about you? Do you sing?"

"Not that remember, usually," she answered. "But on the plus side, I don't remember it."

"So if I have a few more, I could sing and at least say I did not remember," Romeo mused. This idea was starting to sound like it was, at the least, not boring. "The recording would not go to radio, would it?"
