The Beach: Sunday afternoon [5-18-08]

It was such a nice day that Lana decided to take a blanket to the beach and get some sun. She'd thought about heading to Selkie Cove, but decided she felt more like sand than rocks today.

She stretched out on her stomach, book in hand, thermos of iced tea beside her, and settled in for a nice afternoon in the sun.

[Open like a beach is!]

Meg had the same idea as Lana and headed down to the beach with a blanket and a book. It wasn't quite warm enough for her to swim but it was definitely warm enough to tan.

"Hey, Lana," Meg said when she spotted her.

Meg smiled and nodded. "Yeah, it is. Still not warm enough for me to swim but, man, it's definitely laying out weather."

"I'll leave diving in to the crazy people," Meg said, smirking. "And they're out there too. Back home people would surf when it was freezing. Well, freezing in my opinion."

Meg chuckled and shook her head. "Surfers are insane. Consider yourself lucky that Kansas is surfer-free."

"No doubt. Every state has it's fair share of weirdos," Meg said. "Can't say I've ever been to Kansas though."

"I'm sorry, but I have to ask," she said. "What are meteor mutants?"

"Wow. That's pretty weird," Meg said. "Unfortunately in Neptune people are bad without the superpowers."

"Yeah," Meg said, nodding. "There's a big class war going on. And that's not the only thing. One of my friends was murdered by my other friend's father. And then recently...um..."

She didn't know if Dick wanted anyone in Fandom to know about his brother. "...another friend's brother. He blew up a school bus filled with my former classmates."

"Thank you. You can see why I've decided to stay here all summer," she said. "I've hardly been home since I came here. Neptune is awful."

Meg smiled slightly. "Isn't that weird? This town is freaking crazy and yet it's tons better than my hometown."

"Same here," Meg said, sighing. She hated thinking about how she had so little time left here.

"Where are you going?" Meg asked.

"Stanford," Meg said, getting that dorky smile she always did when she talked about college. "I'm starting out as a business major but hopefully I'll get into law school."
