Chilly Boulder, Late Saturday Afternoon/Early Evening

Dōjima had promised Cal ice cream for his birthday, and she had meant it.

Admittedly, he probably wasn't expecting the store to be filled with balloons, streamers, and people, but Dōjima tended to be a bit of a dork about things like this, especially when it came to her friends.

Besides, he had said it was okay if she brought a small army, so inviting the entire student body was perfectly acceptable, right? Right.

"Hey, Ino," Amber said with a lift of her hand in a wave. "I fell day before yesterday on my way back from the diner. Being used to the snow, you'd think I'd know how to walk in the stuff."

Hey, right, she'd forgotten that whole greeting thing. Ooops?

"...ow," Ino decided. "It's feeling better though, right? You know, I never thought snow could be evil before the power decided to die."

"It's..." Amber looked down at her right foot. "Okay? Liir put ice on it last night, so it's feeling better. And yah, I know it. I love the snow actually but pair it with a power outage and it sucks."

"If it still hurts tomorrow come see me," Ino ordered absently. "And, yeah, you know what? We should totally hold a snowball war before it all goes--now that we've got power, it'd be fun. It's only... the third time ever I've seen snow."

"Yes!" she laughed. "No one wanted to have one because, yah, I get the whole no power deal, but since we've heat, we've got to have a snowball fight!"

A beat.

"And okay, if it hurts come tomorrow, I'll find you."

"Good, and yay! Snowball fight. Last year I totally spent almost a day just outside throwing snowballs at anyone who came out of the dorms. It was awesome."

"Oh my god, let's do that, Ino! If no one wants to have a snowball fight, we'll make them!"

"Okay!" Ino was easy for plans like that. "When did we want to do it?"

"I'm good for anytime, seriously. I need the fun right now, I think."

"Ummm," she hummed as she thought, "maybe Monday? I've got class second thing, but I'd only be gone for that."

"I have nothing to do Monday so, yah, that sounds good," she told her. "We can meet up on the school grounds?"

"Meet up early to make a stock-pile of snowballs!" she bounced a little, then winced because her body wasn't impressed with that. "And then we'll wage war!"

Amber noticed that wince. "What's up with your body?"

"Pushed myself the last few days," she said, wrinkling her nose. "I ache everywhere, but whatever. Nothing a few days of taking it easy won't fix."

"Yah, but Ino, you can heal yourself, can't you?"

"Not when I'm this tired," Ino explained. "Being exhausted interferes with how you concentrate and I'd be more likely to make things worse than fix them at the moment."

"Well, damn, that sucks," she mused oh so helpfully. "Anything I can do for you?"

"Just keep talking," she said, grinning a bit. "So I don't fall asleep yet. And, yeah, it sucks but well, it could be a lot worse so I'm not complaining too much, you know?"

"Good for you. Complaining get's you nowhere." A beat. "Or sometimes it get's you exactly what you want. Totally depends on who you complain to." Amber was rambling. "Slurp down a bunch of chocolate syrup. You'll stay away for hours."

"But ice cream tastes better than just pure chocolate syrup! And, yeah, complaining gets you exactly what you want?"

"Well whatever you eat in here, just like, mulitply it by ten," she said, grinning. "And... maybe."

"I will," she said, tilting her head at Amber. "Maybe...?"

"Well, like I said - depends on who you complain to and what you complain about."

"I don't know," she admitted. "Seems too much like fishing for sympathy to me."

"And like I said, it get's you nowhere fast," she said, smirking.

And Amber had totally been fishing for sympathy last night from Liir. But she wasn't about to say that to Ino.
