Luke's Diner, April 13 (Monday)

Lacey had heard all about the kid invasion this time, oh, yes. For once. Yes, she was shocked too.

That was why the buffet table was set out today, loaded down with mac and cheese, Jell-O, and other kid-friendly foods, and Lacey herself was being as scarce as possible. It wasn't that she didn't think the kids were cute; there was just a risk of balloons.

Today's Special
Kids' Buffet Time!

Luke's is open and liable to get a little messy today.

By now, Dinah was determined to get some answers from her Number One Son about his possible future, because he'd been annoyingly tight-lipped about it. While ice cream was off the menu-- he'd been *really* obnoxious to Arawn -- maybe a burger and fries would loosen his tongue.

"Okay, so." She smiled at him after placing their order. "There's stuff I want to know, and I think it's time you told everything."

"Yes," said Arthur, who really rather wouldn't be briefed on this subject as it put a large stone back in his stomach, "Do tell."

He was quickly going back on the idea that agreeing to come along was really simply what his duty in this case demanded, but there was no fleeing now, it seemed.

Gawain squirmed, and tried to give his mom an innocent look. Dad never bought into those. "What's to tell?" He started re-arranging the condiments, lining them up like soldiers. "You guys are married and have me and I'm awesome and we live in New Gotham."

"Yeeeah," Dinah said, watching him closely. "About that. How come your dad's in New Gotham? He's supposed to be back in Albion, in Camelot. Not 'owning the world', whatever that means. And how on Earth did we ever get married?!"

Dinah's about equally disturbed by those, honestly.

"Yes, that last one disturbs me most as well," Arthur said, perfectly sarcastic. It was his only contribution to the subject. He didn't... want to hear any of this. But intervening now to stop the flow of questions-- "Sorcery, no doubt," he said, in some awkward attempt to break off this line of questioning.

Gawain couldn't look at Mom now, either. "He's CEO of Wayne Enterprises, that's how. He tells everybody what to do and how to run the company 'cause Aunt Helena hates that. And I don't know how you got married," he said with rolling eyes. "I wasn't there." He shrugged. "Aunt Barbara said you fought bad guys together and just liked each other a lot and then you kiss before anyone says anything else."

"Oooookay," Dinah said slowly. "Leaving aside how he got made CEO, which, I guess you must have gone to school in New Gotham, Arthur, to get some kind of business degree, and yeah, Helena does hate that stuff." And violently repressing all mention of kissing because oh my god no, "But that doesn't explain why he was there. Not in Camelot. Why couldn't he get back?"

"Dinah, the child obviously doesn't know," Arthur interceded. Again. "This whole 'children' thing is some kind of trick of the island. I hardly see the point."

"I do too know!" Gawain said, indignant, then grimaced. "Damnit." He gave Mom a look of appeal. "I know no swearing it's bad and limited vocabulary blah, but I can't tell! Bad things could happen!"

Mod Your Service - Monday Night

[identity profile] noboynextdoor.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Having talked to some of the other students, Jess knew that the kids would probably have to leave soon, and he wanted to make sure that before Jared left, he had the chance to eat at Luke's.

"I know it's not exactly the same as home," he said as they sat down. "But it's still kind of cool."

Joan was still trying to get over her heart attack from watching Gabby fly.

"So why is there a Luke's here anyway?" she asked.

Re: Mod Your Service - Monday Night

[identity profile] noboynextdoor.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think there was a Luke here once. Like, my uncle Luke," Jess said. "One of those weird things, like when people are here and they know each other, but they're not really from the same time? I know it sounds crazy. Talking about this place is really starting to make me feel crazy too."

Re: Mod Your Service - Monday Night

[identity profile] joan-notjane.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm pretty sure we've gone well beyond crazy," Joan said, giving a pointed look in Jared's direction.

"This place isn't crazy. It's great!" Jared said, bouncing in his seat. "Can I get a cheeseburger? And a soda?"

Re: Mod Your Service - Monday Night

[identity profile] noboynextdoor.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"You can get a cheeseburger and some milk, or juice," Jess replied. That seemed like something a good parent would say.

[identity profile] joan-notjane.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Joan smiled at that. It was totally a good parent thing. "So you like Fandom, huh? Better than Stars Hollow?"

Re: Mod Your Service - Monday Night

[identity profile] weetinymiracles.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Stars Hollow is the best," Jared said. "But there's no people with wings unless it's the Christmas pageant day."

Edmund did like one thing about Fandom, if nothing else (although other things were growing on him), and that was the availability of quick and easy food. This was especially helpful when children were hungry now now now.

That was why the Pevensies were here, ready to get some lunch.

Around noon really, Paul came into the diner.

"I need sandwiches," he informed the lady behind the counter.

"Two," said Paul. "And the good kind."

He paused a moment as he considered his next line.

"And make it snappy."
