It was the weekend after a Fandom issue, which meant that Nathan Dayspring Summers was both enjoying the ensuing quiet and taking a moment to go through his own personal stash of heavy weaponry. With Jan not far behind, of course, even if there was no way in hell he'd let her near any of the actual weapons.

That would come when she was of the right age to name one, let alone lift it.

This didn't keep Jan from spending most of the day wandering through the store yelling 'Tee-sisty! Tee-sisty!' all the time.

Cable was just going to take that as a good thing.

Reese appeared and brought along the paperwork the Mayor, Cable told (http://gunandcoffee.livejournal.com/727.html?thread=6103#t6103) her to bring.

She didn't know what she was expecting but she didn't think it was what she found. Cable didn't look like an politician Reese has ever seen. Also, he had a toddler with her.

"Mayor Summers?"

"That would be me," Cable agreed, glancing up from the desk that he'd, finally, sat behind. "Detective Reese."

"Sir," Reese said with a nod. "I'm here to present my papers just as you asked."

Her eyes ticked once to the kid to make sure she wasn't falling or doing anything dangerous then back to Cable. She was standing in an almost parade rest, hands behind her back and feet spread slightly apart. It felt like she was on review.

Of course Jan wasn't falling. If she was, Cable would not have been here - he would have been across the room.

He put his pen down. "That's step one," he said, "Hand them over. Please."

Reese had them in a folder and handed it to Cable. The file had her license and registration and even her commendation from the LAPD as an expert sharpshooter.

The medal she left at home, 'cause that was unneccesary and an overkill.

Kind of, yes. But he took the folder, and the documents, flipping through them with an idle expression that belied how much attention he was paying to it. "LAPD," he said, finally, and offered her the folder back. "That's quite a pedigree."

Even though it had been some time since Layla had come to school, it was her first trip to Wellspring Arms. She wandered through the store when she saw Jan and Cable doing their thing and gave them a small grin.

"Hello, Cable," Layla watching Jan with amusement.

Cable looked up at that voice, and identified the girl within a few moments. "Layla Miller," he greeted. "I apologise for assuming you wouldn't be in the market..."

This went for comedy. Take note.

"I prefer to let those with experience handle such equipment," Layla chuckled. "I just felt like dropping by and complimenting you on your choice of names for Jan."

It was also Deadpool's fault, but no one was going to find out about that.

He tapped his pen against his chin. "What's your timeline?"

It was Layla Miller. Mincing words seemed wasteful.

"Not yours," Layla replied frankly and appreciatively. "I came in from the Summers rebellion. It's about five or six years before Madrox shows up again to help out. In that timeline Jan is called Hope and you're being chased by Bishop across time. Still."

Kyle had been here for a couple weeks and he hadn't had to shoot anyone and then take their weapons so that he could shoot other people with them. This was almost strange to him, and it kept him from knowing what exactly the weapons around here were like.

And so he took a walk down to the Arms store to check things out. Maybe they'd even have something that was a nice upgrade to what he already had with him.

"Morning," he said in greeting as he walked in and started to look around.

"Morning," Cable replied, finding someone he didn't recognize. At last.

He was almost starting to get lazy in his paranoia, here. "Can I help you...?"

"Hopefully," Kyle said. "I'm looking for a good blaster rifle. Pretty much anything would be an improvement over the one I have."

Imperial blaster rifles... Throwing a rock was almost an improvement over them.

"Of course," Kyle said. "Kyle Katarn. I have a weekend shift at the Freelance Police, but don't hold that against me."
