The shop was done up for Halloween, with candy, pumpkins, scarecrows and ghosts everywhere and a large display of costumes at the front of the shop.

Just don't ask the girl behind the counter if she's going as a goth this year. It will make her glare.

She kind of likes the flapper costumes, actually.

Leda wasn't in costume. But she wasn't shopping for candy either. So it worked out.

"Hi Didi. Ready for Halloween?"

"Yep. I'm even taking a pumpkin over to Jono on my break," Didi said. "What about you, Leda?"

"I'm still not quite sure what to dress up as. You?"

"Probably a flapper, you know, like in the 20s?" Didi said. "I like their dresses."

"Ooh, that sounds cool. I've dressed as a biker chick for way too many Halloweens myself. I think it's time for a change."

"Why a biker chick?"

"I already had the clothes, and dressing as some mythological creature was too mainstream. Well mythological by human standards."

Jennifer had been negligent in her big sib duties, and showed up at the store when Didi was working to try and make up for it a little.

"Hey," she said, smiling.

"Hey back," Didi said. "Want a Halloween costume?"

Jennifer had noooo idea what she could possibly dress as. "...I should probably get one, shouldn't I?"

"Kind of depends on if you want to dress up," Didi said, shrugging. "Do you?"

"Who wouldn't?" Jennifer said.

"People who really hate Halloween?" Didi offered. "Some people think it's evil."

"Well, that's silly," Jennifer said. "It's just a fun holiday."

"People stress about religion, Jen," Didi pointed out. "I don't agree, but I'm not going to argue with somebody about what they think God wants."

"People stress about a lot of silly things," Jennifer said. "But if they want to, they can."

"There's that, sure," Didi said. "And I think you should dress up as ... I don't even know. A squirrel?"

There was a squirrel costume she'd been trying to sell all day.

[OOC: You saw nothing!]

"...A squirrel?" Jennifer repeated. "Really?"

"Yes," Didi said. "You'll be adorable. And you can carry around a notepad and say you're with the radio station."

She was making this up as she went along.

"...And then people will want to smack me for spreading the radio rumors," Jennifer said. She was amused, though.

"And then you get all green and grr-y, right? Which is another perfect costume."

"...I'm imagining me all hulked out and in a torn squirrel costume," Jennifer said. "I'm not sure if that's a good look."

"I think you'd have the pick of all the guys here if you went that way," Didi said.

She didn't even believe herself.

"See, that's not exactly something I need right now," Jennifer said.

"Oh, sorry," Didi said. "bad homecoming date?"

"Actually, a really good one," Jennifer said. "Which is why I don't need a new pick."

"Oh?" Didi was more interested, now. "Who did you take? I was with Jono."

"Zack," Jennifer said. "You know, tall, dark hair and handsome."

"I know him," Didi said. "A little, anyhow. He seems like he's a really good guy."

"He's definitely good," Jennifer said. "And so is Jono."

"Jono," Didi said, "is totally amazing."

She sounded 16 and in puppy love, there.

"My sister even liked him."

Jennifer liked hearing that tone from Didi, actually. It was adorable.

"I missed your sister being around? Awwww."

"Yeah, Del. she was here back at parents' weekend," Didi said fondly. "I didn't get to introduce her to many people. Did you have anybody visiting?"

I had the hardest time coming up with an "h" flavor.

True story: I was Death of the Endless for Halloween in '07. I got asked whether I was just a goth. It made me glare.

Ha!

Death in my head is very specific that the goths ripped her off, not the other way around :-).
