Jaina had had a pretty good time at the carnival, and then getting word about a certain lawbreaker that home that she'd been tracking for a month had put her in a good mood. She beat down the urge to call out of work and go back to her room to prep for her trip home next week now, but she was good and came in.

She'd just occasionally head to the lounge to make calls, though. She was still a workaholic, not having a constant job hadn't done much to change her habits.

"Were I dressing as a chimp, I would be sure to include a tail, at the very least."

Castiel was immune to sarcasm.

"Good point," Fred said, actually pretty impressed the dude was rolling with it. "What're you drinkin'?"

Castiel just barely managed to keep from saying that he wasn't drinking anything at all at the moment.

Chuck went with tequila. But Castiel was already dressed like Chuck, so perhaps he should include more Deanish elements.

"I think I'll have whiskey."

"Tino, get the guy a whiskey, my tab," Fred said. "You just get out of a business meeting or something?"

"My other suit is covered in pie."

"Messy eater?" Fred said. "That's a pity. Gonna be one hell of a drycleaning bill."

"No, I'll clean it myself." Mostly by waving his hands. "I was asked to participate in the Winter Carnival."

"As what, an exotic dancer?" Fred joked. "I thought you normally jumped out of cakes."

"Pie tossing. I'm told it was for a very good cause."

"You didn't ask what the cause was?" Fred asked, raising an eyebrow. "Just... jumped on the charity pie train?"

"You believe there's a reason why I shouldn't have?"

"Well gee, you don't know if maybe there ain't no charity?" Fred said. "Somebody just linin' their pockets or just messin' with everyone?"

"Why would they do that?"

"Because people suck?" Fred said, like it was totally obvious.

Castiel frowned. "In my experience, they can be reasonable."

"Some of 'em," Fred said. "But pretty much anyone'll sell out their own grandma for the right price."

Projecting much, Mr. Dukes?

"No, I believe the bonds of family are usually much firmer than that."

His model of the typical human family was the Winchesters. He might have a slightly exaggerated sense of that.

"You're just dripping with naiveté, you know that?" Fred said. "Just cause you got a good family, don't mean everybody does."

"Oh no," Castiel said. "My family is very divided."

"And how many of them would sell you out for the right price?" Fred asked, king of polite conversation.

"All of them," Castiel responded honestly. "I've also done the same to them."

"...then where's that 'family bonds are strong' crap comin' from?" Fred asked.

"I've seen human families in action."

"Wait, you think humans are actually better than whatever you are?" Fred said.

"At familial relations, yes."
