As Desperation Day dances went, this was probably not the most tacky ever. Of course given that it was Desperation Day, so tacky really went with the territory.

There was glitter, oh, was there ever glitter in a multitude of sparkly colours. But even more so, it seemed that the decorators had taken the 'Hearts Afire' theme literally as large cut out hearts adorned the walls. Each with a tissue paper 'flame' bursting from the top of it. Streamers in all shades of pink twisted across the ceiling, forming almost a canopy. Which hopefully would not be literally set afire. The Fire Department would probably disapprove of that. Also a lot of people's dresses would be ruined.

Let's stay away from any literal fire, okay, guys?

Didi had a new dress and a handsome date, which was enough to put her into an awesome mood for the dance. (Of course, she was sort of always in an awesome mood.) She grinned at the decorations.

"Hearts, fire ... it looks like the decorations crew was pretty literal."

Really, they could have just hung Jono up on the wall. Only he was physically lacking a heart, the fire had already seen to that, which would have possibly hurt the mood a touch.

//Well, it's not what I might have chosen for a Valentine's dance motif,// he mused, //but I can't say I hate it.//

This was Jono. If he were to admit that he actually liked something, the world might end.

Didi smirked up at him, understanding that was as positive as he would ever, ever be. "What would you have chosen for a Valentine's dance motif?"

//Oh, they were on th'right track, of course,// Jono replied, //I might've gone with less glitter. Some black in along with all of that pink. That sort of thing.//

Such a rough life it was.

"See, people are just narrow-minded and don't appreciate black crepe on Valentine's Day," Didi said, with exaggerated woe. "TRhey should have asked you."

No, they shouldn't have.

She stifled a giggle behind her fingertips. "I hope I'm a little more interesting than the streamers anyhow."

//More than a little,// Jono was happy to confirm. //And not just because yer dress is blissfully free of pink, I'd like to add.//

It helped, but really, Didi didn't need much help in the first place.

Didi's lips were twitching. "Yeah, I wanted one that was pink and ruffly but the store was all sold out so I'm stuck with black again. I'm so glad you don't mind."

//And somehow, I'll have to cope? My, what a bloody difficult evening this is going to be.//

You could tell how serious he was being by how amused he looked. Yessir.

//Yer know what would help me get over th'heartbreak, luv?//

She could guess.

"I don't have the faintest idea," and she was doing a flirty eye thing at him.

//A dance,// Jono replied, because she was clearly having such great difficulty coming up with the oh-so-elusive answer. //With a beautiful gel like yerself.//

He was such a sap.

"A dance," Didi echoed, looping her arm through his. "With a handsome gentleman. Lead the way."

//With pleasure, luv,// Jono replied, and he did just that, weaving through the crowd in order to get to the dance floor.

"Hi Didi! Wow you look great!"

"Thanks, Robin. You look .... very green."

"Well I should hope so."
