As Desperation Day dances went, this was probably not the most tacky ever. Of course given that it was Desperation Day, so tacky really went with the territory.

There was glitter, oh, was there ever glitter in a multitude of sparkly colours. But even more so, it seemed that the decorators had taken the 'Hearts Afire' theme literally as large cut out hearts adorned the walls. Each with a tissue paper 'flame' bursting from the top of it. Streamers in all shades of pink twisted across the ceiling, forming almost a canopy. Which hopefully would not be literally set afire. The Fire Department would probably disapprove of that. Also a lot of people's dresses would be ruined.

Let's stay away from any literal fire, okay, guys?

"I suppose." Oooh, feeling back in her fingers. That was nice. Tahiri grinned up at Ben. "You were wrong, you know. You really do look like an unkempt bantha."

"Hey," Ben said, making a face. "Be nice. I worked on this for hours."

Well, minutes, at any rate.

"They must've been really short hours," Tahiri replied, but got up on tiptoe to kiss his cheek to make up for the teasing.

Ben hugged her a little bit against him. "Well, time's been speeding up for me," he said.

"Just tell me I haven't missed your birthday yet?" Tahiri asked. "Because I haven't figured out what I'm getting you for it."

"Nope, just Karla's," Ben said. "She's sixteen now, if we count it."

"And on short notice, all I can get is a teddy bear holding a heart," Tahiri replied. "I'm not entirely sure that's fitting."

Ben laughed, sounding a little more relaxed. "For me or her?"

"Either of you," Tahiri said instantly. "Unfortunately, I can't seem to find anything with a stuffed Ewok here. Which is a shame, because I was going to get it to sing 'Dance, Dance, Little Ewok' just for you."

Ben wrinkled up his nose at her. "Not necessary," he promised. "Really. Your gift could be never mentioning that song again."

"It's very hard to wrap that," Tahiri informed him mock-solemnly.

"You could put a bow on your head and promise not to sing," Ben tried.

"Or just promise not to sing," Tahiri bargained. "I'm not wearing a bow, even for you."

"A big, pink bow?" Ben teased.
