Valentine's Day Dance | Town Hall | Saturday Evening [8pm on]

As Desperation Day dances went, this was probably not the most tacky ever.  Of course given that it was Desperation Day, so tacky really went with the territory.

There was glitter, oh, was there ever glitter in a multitude of sparkly colours.  But even more so, it seemed that the decorators had taken the 'Hearts Afire' theme literally as large cut out hearts adorned the walls.  Each with a tissue paper 'flame' bursting from the top of it.  Streamers in all shades of pink twisted across the ceiling, forming almost a canopy.  Which hopefully would not be literally set afire.  The Fire Department would probably disapprove of that. Also a lot of people's dresses would be ruined.

Let's stay away from any literal fire, okay, guys?

[Up early for timezones.  Wait for the OCD or I will STAB YOU, OKAY? is up! And thre'll be a second post up later if this one gets insanely large (well, hell, why even say 'if')]

He laughed. "Welcome to the world of deodorant," he teased and his nose was grateful for that. Morgana smelled very nice, it was hard not to notice and there was a definite lack of her roommate's scent which he could appreciate.

Not that he'd say that out loud, because it'd sound way too weird and even he thought it was weird thinking it.

"And showers! Regularly!" Morgana said with a laugh. "What a wondrous world I've found myself in."

"Showers are nice," he agreed and oh god, he should not let his mind wander there. He shouldn't. Not when she was this close.

Focus, Jacob. He kind of liked the shape of her shoulder. Not on that.

Morgana was, thankfully, not thinking of showers and Jacob at all, or else there would have been uncontrollable blushing going on. "They really are. And hot running water. And refrigeration. I'm going to miss all of these things when I have to leave."

There was a he hadn't much thought about, but then he didn't even know what year Morgana was in. "When's that?"

"Well, there's graduation in the spring but Arthur and Merlin haven't been able to get home in all the time they've been here, except once when I arrived. I'm not sure when we'll be able to get home, really." Somehow, she didn't sound very sad about that at the moment.

Spring? Of course, he just had to keep liking older girls, didn't he? "That's soon. I don't suppose you'd trade in the knights for showers, huh?"

"It's very tempting," Morgana said, almost completely serious. "I've grown very fond of this place. There's so little to fear here, gremlins and strange days and all."

He was more at ease now that he hadn't completely messed up the dancing yet that he was able to concentrate fully on their conversation.

His hand shifted on her back and he glanced down at her. "What's there to fear in Camelot?"

"All kinds of things. Attacks from sorcerers and thieves and murderers. And then...magic is forbidden there," she said. "Anyone found practicing any kind of sorcery is put to death. Even you would not be safe, with your transformations."

"Even if it's used to protect?" he asked with a frown. That sounded a lot more narrow minded than he remembered from the legends. "What about Merlin?"

"I do not know how Merlin has survived. He must have been practicing in secret," Morgana said. "Uther does not believe magic can be used to protect, only to harm, and his mind will not be changed. Believe me, I have tried."

"Seems like the best way to defend yourself against a sorcerer would be to have good mages on your side," Jacob reasoned, shaking his head.

And this was a great topic while dancing. At least it put the shower out of his mind. Sort of.

"You would think so, because you're a sensible person," Morgana said, moving in a little closer. "Is it wrong that I don't wish to go back right away? It isn't as though I've abandoned everyone. Almost all of my friends are here."

"Not wrong," he murmured, leaning his head down closer to hers as he moved their hands closer to his body.

He was stuck between extremes. Right now, he was convinced this was the very spot he needed to be. Except how last week around this time he'd wanted to get out so much. "Definitely not wrong," he repeated, his voice a little tighter.
