Valentine's Day Dance | Town Hall | Saturday Evening [8pm on]

As Desperation Day dances went, this was probably not the most tacky ever.  Of course given that it was Desperation Day, so tacky really went with the territory.

There was glitter, oh, was there ever glitter in a multitude of sparkly colours.  But even more so, it seemed that the decorators had taken the 'Hearts Afire' theme literally as large cut out hearts adorned the walls.  Each with a tissue paper 'flame' bursting from the top of it.  Streamers in all shades of pink twisted across the ceiling, forming almost a canopy.  Which hopefully would not be literally set afire.  The Fire Department would probably disapprove of that. Also a lot of people's dresses would be ruined.

Let's stay away from any literal fire, okay, guys?

[Up early for timezones.  Wait for the OCD or I will STAB YOU, OKAY? is up! And thre'll be a second post up later if this one gets insanely large (well, hell, why even say 'if')]

"My interpretation seems to be right so far," he decided, shrugging. "I haven't gone anywhere and you don't seem to have game tonight."

"You wish." Or maybe he didn't, because there was really no downside for him, leaving early with her.

Effy leaned up closer, still deliberately holding back and lowering her voice a little. She knew the tones that got him. Learning to use her accent to her advantage, with him. "I am on my game."

It definitely got to him but he managed to keep it internalized for the moment, only allowing a slow smile to slip out and cross his face. He was definitely paying attention but trying not to let any of his tells show.

"Haven't seen any proof of that," he replied, smirking. "You look on your game but that doesn't mean you're on your game. Seems to mean the opposite with you, in fact."

"Haven't left to go get trashed yet," she noted, finally reaching up to lightly rest her hands against his chest. Something was keeping him here, at the very least.

"Sticking it out with the glitter and hearts." Which she was sure he must hate.

"I'm a nice enough guy to give you a chance," he replied, shrugging. Be kind of insane not to do that considering he knew what sorts of things she could do when motivated.

"You came because I asked," he reminded her. "Bet that doesn't happen often. I must really mean something."

"It's rare," Effy agreed, not seeing the point in trying to deny that particular fact. She also didn't deny that he meant something. Already knew that anyway, didn't he? "And you like that." Or so it seemed. Made him a special one.

"Like knowing you're the only one." Okay, not just rare. Wouldn't have this sort of arrangement with anyone else around.

"I like knowing I'm the only one." Considering the tantrums she'd seen him throw when he hadn't been, that was easy enough to be honest about. It was a little fucking scary to say it but he hadn't ever backed off before.

Alex tucked his hands into his pockets, letting her touch but keeping hands off just to let her do what she wanted. And he didn't want to tempt himself.

"That still doesn't mean," Alex said, leaning a little closer to her and smirking smugly, "that you're talented enough to get me out of here early. Guess I'm the one with that skill."

"Got you to leave early from parties before," she reminded him, brushing her fingers over his shirt. Nice shirt, deserved a bit of touching. "Remember."

He'd barely known her at that point, and did just follow her. "Made it worthwhile, didn't I?"

"Different dynamic," he said, pulling that excuse out of his ass because he couldn't just let her be right. "But yeah, I didn't regret leaving early with you. Fucking fun anytime we get together."

Unless they argued, of course.

"Now I know you better," he said, turning his smirk into a smile, "so I get to make it a little harder even if I know it'd be fun to just leave now."

"You really, really gonna make me tell you exactly why you should leave with me right now?" she asked, moving her lips by his ear.

"Think you know already."

Re: Shadowy Corners

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2010-02-16 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course he knew already. That wasn't going to stop him from being stubborn and trying to make her work for it. He was confident she'd do the same.

"It's a party and I'm all dressed up," he replied, turning his face towards her a bit but trying not to touch. He did lower his voice, just fine with using his own voice to his advantage. "All your vagueness doesn't make me want to go anywhere. I'm sure there's something interesting in the crowd."

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-02-16 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Prefer to think of it as a little mystery," she told him, grinning a little now he was looking at her. In most cases, that was what drew people to her, she'd learned.

"What are you hoping to find out there," she asked, tipping her head back towards the crowds, "That I can't do?"

Re: Shadowy Corners

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2010-02-16 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"I dunno," he answered, glancing at the crowd briefly before flicking his eyes back to her, "but that's what exploration is for, right? Always like to find new things that catch my attention. What can you do that you don't think I could find out there?"

Re: Shadowy Corners

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
"I think," she said slowly, dragging her thumb along the skin she could reach just above his collar, "you'd rather get dragged out of here to find a nice dark corner by me, than anyone else out there."

Re: Shadowy Corners

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
"There are dark corners here," he pointed out, tipping his head to one side just because that felt nice, no denying it. "And I'm sure I could have some pleasant experiences with anyone out there in these dark corners."

Yes, still being stubborn and yes, being deliberately jerky with some of his comments just to see if he could provoke her. Sometimes it was difficult but he did like to try.

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 11:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Since when have you settled for pleasant?" Still calm, for the moment. Considering their little arrangement was largely due to his pushing, Effy doubted he'd break it this fast just to provoke her.

Re: Shadowy Corners

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Since when have I been predictable?" he retorted, raising an eyebrow. "I'll settle for anything I feel like settling for, pleasant or otherwise."

Definitely trying to get a rise out of her now. Hopefully he'd just be able to reign it in before it stepped over the line.

"Pleasant can have many meanings."

Re: Shadowy Corners

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Be a shame if you did," she said, dragging that finger up his neck, behind his ear and around. "Settle." Because that sounded kind of fucking boring and would leave her at a loose end after all this. "Have to find someone else to entertain me.

"And I want you," she said, making sure to ennunciate every word on that last part.

Re: Shadowy Corners

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
It was always kind of heady to hear that from her since she wasn't one to outright say things like that. That sort of thing usually fell to him. Still, her opening it up a bit had him relaxing some and even reaching out to rest a hand against her hip.

"What do you want me for?" he asked, tone teasing this time. Nothing deep or meaningful here, just a fun game and just seeing what she'd say. "Just your entertainment for the night?"

Re: Shadowy Corners

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe tomorrow, too," she told him, smirking now she really thought she was getting somwhere here.

And yeah, he was a little more than just entertainment to her. Shut up.

Re: Shadowy Corners

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"What, you want me to be your Valentiiiiiiiiine?" he asked, lengthening that word for effect and smirking. "Take a special person to get me to stay that long."

Yeah right, he'd done it with her before. It didn't take much more than her giving some indication that she wanted him there. And she'd already done that.

"Think that's you?"

Re: Shadowy Corners

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Effy shook her head mildly, choosing to firmly ignore that Valentine's jibe. "Already know it is," she said instead. Still had confidence in that, oh yes, for all the reasons he was already aware of.

Re: Shadowy Corners

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Alex grinned and curled his fingers tighter against her hip. "Then, maybe you should get to showing me why. Wouldn't want to get stolen away to be another person's entertainment for the weekend."

Re: Shadowy Corners

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"No," Effy agreed, tightening her grip on his shirt and dropping the other hand to do the same and backing away to tug him towards the door. "Wouldn't want that."

Didn't much feel like taking any risks on that count. Liked it much more when her plans panned out and he stuck with her, thanks.
