As Desperation Day dances went, this was probably not the most tacky ever. Of course given that it was Desperation Day, so tacky really went with the territory.

There was glitter, oh, was there ever glitter in a multitude of sparkly colours. But even more so, it seemed that the decorators had taken the 'Hearts Afire' theme literally as large cut out hearts adorned the walls. Each with a tissue paper 'flame' bursting from the top of it. Streamers in all shades of pink twisted across the ceiling, forming almost a canopy. Which hopefully would not be literally set afire. The Fire Department would probably disapprove of that. Also a lot of people's dresses would be ruined.

Let's stay away from any literal fire, okay, guys?

That was . . . not as much of a complaint as you'd think; it was a lot more amused than anything else.

The punch wasn't spiked yet, so Francine couldn't blame it when she leaned down to whisper in Katchoo's ear, "Does that mean you don't want to know about mine?"

Which meant in turn that Katchoo couldn't blame the punch for the way she completely lost her composure and started sputtering.

Everyone be grateful that there was nothing literal about the extreme bugging-out of her eyes, now.

"You . . . you . . . god, you really do have to watch out for the innocent ones, don'tcha?"

Francine shrugged and tried to ignore the fact that she couldn't pull off saying things like that without blushing. "How else are we supposed to learn?"

Katchoo? Not about to help with the blushing thing, unless you counted possibly making it worse as helping. "We could schedule a private lesson for afterward."

Ulp. "As long as that's not going in anybody's dvd collection."

There was enough of her doing that on film, thanks.

"Entirely off the record."

"Good," said Francine. "I bought what I'm wearing under this for you, not Youtube."

Francine saying things like that still brought a certain not-entirely-tiny amount of mental keysmash. But the good kind.

". . . aaaaaaaaaaaand we're staying here and not leaving because?"

Teasing, Francine! Mostly.

"Because you're not getting out of the the Valentine's Dance without dancing."
