As Desperation Day dances went, this was probably not the most tacky ever. Of course given that it was Desperation Day, so tacky really went with the territory.

There was glitter, oh, was there ever glitter in a multitude of sparkly colours. But even more so, it seemed that the decorators had taken the 'Hearts Afire' theme literally as large cut out hearts adorned the walls. Each with a tissue paper 'flame' bursting from the top of it. Streamers in all shades of pink twisted across the ceiling, forming almost a canopy. Which hopefully would not be literally set afire. The Fire Department would probably disapprove of that. Also a lot of people's dresses would be ruined.

Let's stay away from any literal fire, okay, guys?

Yeaaaah, she had a lot of experience of that one and didn't bother to smother her own brief laugh. "I never tried to claim that was a 'little thing'," she pointed out. Big honking stupid thing, yes.

"It's just a small tattoo," he assured her, reaching for one of her hands and stifling a grin. "I can make it up to you, babe!"

"Oh you can, can you?" she laughed, slipping her fingers between his. "And how are you going to do that?"

"Well, I haven't thought that far yet," he admitted with a laugh. "There something special you want?"

"What do I always want at a dance like this?" Oh yes, she was going to get that, one way or the other.

"Cuddling?" he tried, deliberately stepping around the obvious answer.

"Well, I'll take some of that too." Obviously. Angela would never turn down an offer like that. "Keep guessing."

"Spiked punch?" he asked, glancing towards the food table. "Something to eat? A puppy?"

"I really don't think you want a puppy in our room." Spiked punch and food she could probably go for. "And your guessing is really, really bad tonight," she added, teasing.

"Or I'm just really excellent at avoidance," he suggested, looking partially triumphant. "If I don't guess right, we don't have to do it."

That's how it worked. Or something.

"That is not how this works," she claimed immediately, laughing at his continued avoidance. Just no. "Not guessing is not going to help you, and you know it."

"So, ask me," he suggested, raising an eyebrow. "Maybe you'll get the answer you want."

Or maybe he'd continue to avoid just to be immature.

Very true. Maybe he'd surprise her and make this all very easy. Angela suspected not, but--

"Hannibal, please will you come out and dance with me?"

See? She was asking nicely and everything.

Hannibal didn't answer immediately because what fun would it be without some suspense? Before he did answer, he gave her hand a squeeze.

"Sure." Ha ha, surprising! He could do that sometimes. Figured one of the last dances was a good place to pull that out. "Let's go dance."

He was so giving himself brownie points for this.

Angela pulled a look of mock surprise. "Was that no resistance?" Wow. "No bribery and pleading to get our of it or anything?"

"Nope." In fact, he was already tugging her along, feeling pleased about his surprise answer. "Kind of dumb considering I always end up dancing and you know I like it anyway, right? Just cutting out the excess. I wanna dance with you."

No, Angela was not about to argue with that. Not even a little.

"Oh, I could get used to this," she teased, easily letting herself get lead off.
