Groovy Tunes, Tuesday
Tuesday. By now, it was fairly clear around Groovy Tunes that Tuesdays were Jonothon days. And Jonothon days, as a result, meant live music days.
Today's project saw him with his guitar and his amp, yes. It also saw him with a pencil and a piece of paper, writing down tabs as he idly poked at some songs of his own creation.
The hope was that, if he poked at them enough, they wouldn't sound absolutely awful. Of course, it was possible that Jono was being harder on himself than any prospective audience might be. Artists, after all, are generally notorious for being their own worst critics.

...yeeeeah.
"Ready for your performance?"

It had more scribbles and eraser marks on it than he was willing to let anybody ever see, and so it was being shoved into a drawer rather swiftly, yes.
//Any preference as to what I start with, gel? I can start with somethin' softer'n my usual fare, if yer not in th'mood for louder, heavier music right away.//

It was a surprisingly larger selection than one might think.
//Maybe a cover, then,// he replied, picking up his guitar and making certain that his amp was on and all the settings were right. //Stairway to Heaven is almost too light, really. Maybe Daughter?//
Yes, Pearl Jam. Because he was predictable. That didn't stop him, of course.
//Missin' a bit without percussion and vocals, mind.//

Jean Grey. Enabler.

//It hardly counts as singin', what I do, yer know.//
Not because he had a bad voice, really. More because he didn't actually have one at all.

Guitar solo time.
//It feels like it's gone and taken two steps away from th'music yer can year with yer ears, to me.//

//Tell me, how's th'guitar, at least?//
Said the guy who made a living playing in pubs in London when he still had a winning smile. Come on, Jono.

Or, rather, as close as Jono could get to a sigh. It looked something like a pronounced heaving of his shoulders, and that was about the end of it.
//And yer want me to sing, gel?//

And then, finally, he relented.
//If it seems completely, absolutely bloody off, don't blame me,// he informed her. And then, as an afterthought, he started playing something slightly more mellow, still.
//You gave me this,// Yes. Bush. //Made me give...//
Because there was no irony at all in Jonothon attempting to sing Mouth.

She leaned back, setting in to listen like a good

... All in all, both parts of the performance weren't bad in the least. This was his life before mutancy, after all. But 'not bad' still wasn't good enough for him.
When the song ended, he lowered his guitar and just looked at her, waiting for... any sort of input at all, really.

//It was?// A pause. //Anything needs work, at all? I mean... th'singing doesn't sit right. I know that. Wish I knew what t'do about it.//

//Been tryin'. Found a gel who can sing, but she's not th'sort to really perform for a crowd.// Alas. //Still lookin', I suppose.//
Which he was fine with. It meant that he could continue being a complete chickenshit about getting up in front of an audience.

And then he gave Jean an appraising sort of look.
Be afraid, Jean.
//I don't suppose you can sing at all?//
Be very afraid.

He had you there, Jean.

"Right," Jean said warily.
