The Beach, Sunday Afternoon
Savannah and K-Mart had decided that taking the kidlets outside for awhile would be a very good idea.
They gathered up everyone and headed out to the beach. The way the girls thought, the beach would give plenty of room for running and playing...
...and maybe Storm and Alice-Claire would burn off some of that energy that they seemed to have an unending supply of.
"Can we call Daddy?" Storm demanded.
"In a little bit," Savannah promised. "He's probably not awake yet."
Unlike Savannah and K-Mart, who had been awake since four a.m. Johnny should be very grateful that Savannah loved him too much to wake him up at that ungodly hour.
"Storm, no magic in the water!"
She doubted that either of the girls would listen to her on that. She sighed and looked at LJ. "LJ?"
He grinned, already moving after the two girls. "Don't worry, Aunt Savannah. I'll keep an eye on my sisters."
Savannah and K-Mart collapsed on the sand after spreading out towels and blankets. It was probably going to be a very long day.

Yes, in his mind, this was justification enough. Not entirely unlike his father in that regard. Because nobody got to control who Johnny Storm was with, and that certainly translated to his son.
Damn Johnny!

That was the voice that could cow just about anybody.

Oh, Eve. That really did sound like Savannah, didn't it?
no subject
And with that, Eve canceled both the flames and the barrier spell, at the same time using knock-back spells to shove Mairin and Telyn apart. "I SAID play nice!"
no subject
Savannah had managed to grab Mairin when Eve did the knock-back spells and was holding a shrieking Mairin out of range of the other girl. For her trouble, she got kicked by Telyn.
"DON'T KICK MY SISTER!"
That was Mairin fighting to get out of Savannah's arms and attack Telyn again.

"Telyn, I'm your Aunt Eve. And if you kick anybody again, I will beat your ass until you can't walk."
Okay, no she wouldn't. But maybe the threat of it would work. Nobody ever claimed she had traditional parenting skills.

That would be a snowball smacking Telyn right in the face.

Eve couldn't help smirking as the snowball hit.
"You are going to behave or I'm sending a letter back with you detailing JUST how much of a snot-nosed little brat you've been -- and I'll use magic to secure it to you so you can't throw it away the second you're through the portal."
She arched an eyebrow. "Because what do you think your mother would say about you acting so rudely to people she cares about?"

"I didn't do anything!" LJ protested. "She's the one that came over to me!"
"Lloyd Jefferson Storm, I don't want to hear it," Eve said sharply. "You encouraged your little sister into using a spell that is very dangerous for someone her age and with her unpracticed skills. Don't think I'm not telling your mother about that."
no subject
"Grandma Eve, no! LJ didn't know I wassa gonna do the spell until I dids it. I saw Telyn trying to hurt him and I came to help." She shook her head, looking at Alice-Claire for confirmation. "I'm a witch like my mommy and I can do magic."

Okay, kid, low blow. Clearly well learned.
"That doesn't change the fact that he set the barrier on fire and encouraged her," Eve said.
"He was just trying to make it stronger so Telyn couldn't get at them!"
no subject
"Storm pr'tected them so I coulds fight the bad guy."
Because in her eyes, Telyn was so the bad guy.
