Sure the temperature outside was finally dropping below eighty, but within Atlas Gym, the heat was building.

There was no music.

There was no air conditioning.

There was only a hot and sweaty Russian who had spent the morning dragging old, dust-covered fans out of storage and setting them up to provide some relief to the Jazzercise participants who were literally going to be sweating to whatever oldies they could sing today.

Dimitri propped the doors to the gym open, hoping for a little natural air circulation while he went through his own workout, shirt getting heavy with perspiration. What? Like he was going to just hang out because of a little heat.

Atlas Gym was open for business!

Rose was stuck on that smirk as she looked back up at him. "You're assuming I'm joking."

"There was no time..." Dimitri was refusing to believe that Jessi of all people had hooked up with a guardian in town for three days.

And yet. "Tell me you're joking."

"I can tell you, but I'd be lying," she replied. "I've been hearing about it from Jessi all damn week."

Pardon the staring from Dimitri.

He needed a moment to grasp the many, many potential problems with this new information.

"And you're just telling me now?"

Rose gave him a Look. "What, I was supposed to talk about it when Jessi was in the gym? It's not that big of a deal."

Dimitri didn't back down from her look, lowering his voice to remind her, "She knows."

Which normally, Dimitri didn't care what Jessi knew. But if she was going to be flapping her...nevermind.

"She guesses, yeah, but it's not like she has proof," Rose said, determined that she wasn't going to worry about this. Even if Dimitri's reaction was making her worry more now. "I mean - it's Jessi. She can't keep more than one thing in her head anyway."

"Regardless, she's not someone I would have anyone...dealing with." Thinking about this was breaking the man's brain, and Dimitri was still looking horrified at the idea of Jessi and anyone he knew.

Rose took a couple steps toward him. "Doesn't say much for his taste," she pointed out, trying to tease a little so he would stop shattering his brain on the images. "Maybe that's why he volunteered to take over for you."

"And wouldn't that have been a fun summer for you," Dimitri replied. "Jessi so would have enjoyed the opportunity to help with your training."

She shuddered at the thought. "Oh God. And that goes number three on worse possible scenarios, thanks."

"Only third?" Call Dimitri curious. "What are first and second?" Maybe he could be distracted away from the horror of Jessi hooking up with Yuri.

"...yeah, only third," Rose said, giving him a weird look. "Like it could be worse than -" she shrugged. "It's not like it isn't totally obvious what the first two would be."

Dimitri met her eyes and understood that she wasn't just talking about training scenarios and made an attempt to diffuse that. "Jessi as a guardian and your assigned mentor?"

"I hate you so much," she bitched. "That's - holy crap. How about Jessi as your student?"

It was Dimitri's turn to smirk, "Think she'd listen better than you?"

Rose glared at him, her lips quirking a little as she tried not to laugh. "Yup. I can let her know you're accepting new ones."

"Great," he deadpanned. "You can pick up her Tae Bo classes in the trade."

"It wouldn't last," Dimitri reasoned. "I'd call up Fialkovskii first." Because even Dimitri had his limits.

"I hear that Guardian Petrov isn't one to change her mind once she makes it up," Rose said, smirking a little as she threw his words back at him.

"I knew, but that doesn't mean I wanted you to hear," Dimitri told her. He'd even lowered his voice during the conversation in hopes she'd get the hint.
