The Perk [Friday afternoon]

Jaime didn't really need (more) coffee at the moment, but he was at the Perk anyway. With all the weirdness around Fandom he'd learned to tune out the Scarab's near-constant low-grade series of alerts. Because even acknowledging them all would be a full-time job.

Which was Jaime's current excuse for not having picked up on the innocuous little warning of 'previous bearer (deceased) detected'. Not that he knew that was his excuse due to the still not having picked up on things, but still.

It was going to be a really good excuse when he needed to bust it out. Really.

Tim could always use some coffee. He stopped in for a cup (iced) and gave Jaime a wave when he saw him. "How's it going?"

"My girlfriend's back in town."

What? His girlfriend was hot.

Tim laughed. "Congratulations. What's her name?"

"Dinah." That dopey grin was only getting wider as he said it.

Interesting. "Hyper blonde girl from New Gotham?" Tim asked. "I've met her. She's a Knights fan." Among other things.

"Hyper?" Jaime asked thoughtfully. "I guess I don't really think of her that way. But maybe that's just me spending too much time around Momoko."

"Momoko has a lot of energy as well," Tim acknowledged. "How long have you and Dinah been together?"

Jaime had to think about that. "Um... I guess since Spring Break?"

"Huh. It feels like longer than just a few months..."

"Did you just graduate, too?" Tim asked.

Dinah was still high as a kite over her dad being here. They'd hung out today at the beach, and she'd shown him what she could do with her powers, and the motorcycle was next, after they got some coffee.

Dinah and caffeine and motorcycles. Excellent combination!

As well as-- "Ooo, dad, there's someone I want you to meet here."

Jaime looked up at the sound of a familiar voice, her words not really registering. He flashed a quick grin at Dinah which slipped into something more polite when she saw he had company.

Larry was looking forward to the motorcycle ride, even if it was hard to a believe his little girl was going to be the driver.

"One of your friends?" he asked when he spotted Jaime.

"Um. Boyfriend." Dinah might have winced over not mentioning him by name before, but there'd been so much else to talk about, and maybe it had been glided over.... "Jaime! Um. This is my dad. Larry Lance." Dinah rocked on her toes, and said, "Dad? This is Jaime Reyes. My boyfriend."

One moment Jaime was sitting comfortably in his chair. The next moment he was standing up, back way too stiff to be comfortable. His hand shot out stiffly. "Pleasuretomeetyousir!"

Please don't beat Jaime up!

Larry shook Jamie's hand. Maybe a little more firmly then necessary, but not too much. "It's a pleasure to meet you to Jamie. I'm sure we have a lot to talk about."

Dinah gave Jaime a questioning look. C'mon. He'd met Helena! How scary could this be? It was her daaaaaaaad!

"I'm going to get a coffee, and I'll be right back," Dinah said, giving her dad an equally questioning look. Then a spontaneous hug for a her dad, and an Isn't this awesome?!!?! beam at Jaime. "We're going out on my bike!"

Then she bounced over to the counter.

"So. Um."

Way to start of smooth there, Jaime.

"You're Dinah's dad, huh?"

Oh, and stating the obvious. Always good!

Okay... So really Ted had been summoned by Guy to resolve whatever issues they needed to put to rest.

That didn't mean that Ted couldn't go out for a cup of coffee, right?

Only thing is he really wished being resurrected from the dead came along with a change of clothing. Oh, sure, the Blue Beetle outfit was clean and all but it would have been nice to go out for coffee with something that didn't have a mask.

Jaime glanced over when Ted walked into the shop. Then he did a double-take.

And for good measure he sprayed his coffee across the room.

"Ted Kord?" Er. "I mean... Blue Beetle?"

"Nice spit take," Ted said in good humor as he took a step back to avoid the spray. "Not to mention the whole revealing my secret identity but I'm usually dead so that's not so much a faux paux as opposed to revealing that you know me somehow. So. Should I know you?"

"Um..." Jaime stood up straight, not really sure if he should salute, or bow, or just offer his hand...

"I'm Jaime Reyes. I'm a... uh... fan?" SUPER CONVINCING!

Oh, yeah. Guy had mentioned him to Ted last night. And now Ted was giving the kid a once-over.

Ted offered Jaime his hand. "I think we might have a good bit to talk about, Jaime."

"Um... yeah. That'd be." Jaime grinned suddenly. "It's a huge honor, sir."

Ted waved his hand dismissively and then motioned for him to sit down. "Call me Ted," he said taking a seat. "If we're sharing the same name we should at least be on a first name basis."

"Ted." Jaime grinned and sat down a bit awkwardly.

"I... um... have your journals." He blushed a bit. "They've been really helpful."
