John had decimated the population of the world five times before he headed to the bar, phone to his ear as he explained how effective the Rodney pandemic virus had been. "No, it's not multiplayer." He waved at Tino for a beer as he sat down, making faces at no one present.

"No, it's not better than our game." He rolled his eyes. As if disease was as cool as running dueling civilizations. "Yes, I'm sure they're doing fine without us."

He paused, eyebrow lifting. "No."

"No."

"Did you hear me say no twice?" John snorted, somehow smiling despite the exchange. "I'm hanging up now." At least Tino was quick with that beer.

"That's right. I'll even drink with you," he offered, thinking somehow that might help him not do anything completely stupid. "If you want, of course."

She didn't think she could really tell him no on that. And his tolerance had to be a lot higher than hers. She wasn't even sure what hers was anymore, so hitting a good stopping point shouldn't be hard. "It's your special and you're pouring," she pointed out. She'd just sip her water before she even thought about a second shot.

"It sounds easy, but I can see in your eyes you're going to make this difficult for me," John pointed out. Not that he had a goal...he just missed her being fun and free.

Yeah, she kind of missed her being that, too. "When have I ever made things easy for you?" she countered with a smirk.

John reached out to grab up her hand with both of his as he leaned over the counter. "I thought I was the difficult one here."

That was unexpected, and definitely reminded her that she'd really sort of missed things like his hands. Biting back a comment about him being the easy one, she asked, "What, so I can't take a turn being difficult sometimes?"

"No," John shook his head, letting his hands massage over hers. He really was the easy one, but he'd never own to it.

She really should tell him to stop, but there was that whole thing where she didn't want him to. They were never easy anymore, that was for sure. "What if I want to be difficult?" she asked instead.

"Nah, you don't want to." Look how he could see about having his own Jedi mind trick to use on her. Maybe if he focused really hard...

She raised her eyebrows, interested in the answer to the question she was about to ask. "And why wouldn't I want to?"

"Because deep down in there, I know you just want to have fun," he told her. "And you know I'm good at bringing out that side of you."

He was definitely on to something there. Fun hadn't really happened in at least a year. "If I tell you you might have a point, am I going to be able to live it down ever?" she wondered.

"Depends on if my point ends with you actually having fun." And he didn't just mean with him.

Jaina narrowed her eyes, considering this. And then with her free hand- apparently she was not ready to let go- she reached for the shot, downing it quickly and putting the glass down with a nonverbal There.

"Wanna spray paint your initials on the side of the building?" His eyes twinkled with the teasing.

"That's more your style than mine," Jaina pointed out with a lopsided grin. "Though if it's just my initials, I could blame you..."

"That was my thinking," he admitted. "Fewer consequences on your part. People expect that sort of thing from me. And John Smith."

"You'd really take the blame for me for vandalism?" Not that she'd actually do it, she was more of a theft/breaking and entering/assault kind of girl, but she was curious.

"Is that a surprise?" John was good at covering for his people. Apparently Jaina was in that category still.

"I don't know. Never considered it before," she admitted. "But it shouldn't be."

"Then I take it you're interested?" He was still teasing, yes, but there was another shot ready for her.

"Not in vandalism," she decided. And she was wondering what a third shot would do to her. It used to be that three meant she was drunk, but she felt fine at the moment.

That was flirty and he liked it. "Then what?"

"Then you get to come up with another idea," Jaina told him, picking up the shot. She knew how dangerous it was to give him that. "You're the one with an idea of fun."

"And you're the one leaving yourself way open to danger here," John pointed out. "We could start small - mix your whites with your darks in the wash."
