The Streets of Fandom, Friday Afternoon

"Alright, guys!" Zack's arms were crossed over his chest as he looked around the streets. Handwavey Messages had been left on the phones of anybody who had exchanged numbers at past Reserve meetings, Martial or Magic, and people had been told to bring whatever they needed in order to go zombie-fish hunting. "This is kind of like the time we had alligators burping goldfish, but this time, there aren't any gators, and the fish mean business. I don't want anybody setting off to face them down on their own, you hear me?"

He casually ducked as a swarm of piranha zipped by, where his head had been a moment before.

Karla sent a flare of Sapphire power after the swarm, dropping them in mid-air. Hello! They were talking here! No reason to be man-eating and rude.

"There's no reason for anyone to keep fighting while injured, or anything like that, so if you get bit or something, head back to the dorms or the clinic and have someone stitch you back up," Karla continued. "The last thing any of us want is some kind of suppurating flesh wound. They're gross."

While Karla spoke, the piranhas had undergone their zombiefication and flung themselves back up into the air, heading back for the group.

"Great. Also, it looks like you have to kill them twice."

A well-aimed Fira spell courtesy of Zack took care of the re-raised fish, and after a moment taken to poke at one of the char-broiled bodies with his toe, Zack shrugged and looked to the group.

"Let's get to it, then, and show these fish that they're messing with the wrong island!"

This, Tahiri thought, would be a lot easier if she had a working lightsaber, but making do with her gaderffii and blaster wasn't too bad, all things considered. Target practice, plus she could hear Corran telling her now she shouldn't rely too heavily on her lightsaber anyway so she might as well use this as a learning experience.

"I can't decide," she remarked out loud, picking off a piranha with a nicely placed blaster bolt, "if this is more or less disgusting than alligators vomiting up goldfish."

"More," Ben declared, making a face. "Kriffing zombies."

"What a fun way to spend a Friday!" Ben commented, turning fish into little bitty fish with his lightsaber.

Sadly, he was complete sincere.

"Killing them twice is a pain, isn't it?" A splattery pain, too; don't ask how disgusting it was when Tahiri pinned a piranha to the ground with the spiked-hook end of her gaderffii. "It's just where they're flying on their own, and not being spit out of some smelly lizard's mouth . . ."

Ben ducked as one whizzed at his head. "That one had the element of weirdness going for it," he said. "This is just...smelly."

Firekeeper had opted for her bow today. It was longer range than her sword, and besides that she was better with it.

Blind Seer, meanwhile, was leaping at the fish and tearing them apart with fangs and claws.

"He is upset they is not very good eating," Firekeeper commented. Truth be told, she was a little disappointed too.

"That is not sarcasm," Karla noted, using witchfire to blast a few of the creatures out of the sky. "I can't help but note, that is not sarcasm."

Ben grinned at her. "Movies in the common room get boring," he said.

"And wrong." Tahiri flung a hand out to Force-nudge one piranha so it careened into three others oncoming. "Not to mention something I'm never mentioning to Master Cilghal."

A standard defence blaster was probably not the ideal weapon for taking out swarms of tiny, deadly things, but it would do, and more to the point, it was what Cally had.

"Are these things actually native to Earth?" she asked as the field of her weapon brought down a handful of them.

When they stilled, flopped, then took to the air again, she was suddenly a bit too busy to ask the follow-up question: What in the names of the five remaining gods are they?

"That's an impressive weapon," Cally observed, firing a blast of her own at the undead creatures directly in front of her.

He burst out laughing. "Probably a good choice," he agreed. "Do we have any idea what these things want, other than our brains?"

"Thanks," Ben said with a smile. "It's called a lightsaber." He glanced at hers. "Is that a blaster?"

"Too many bones, too undead, or both?" Ben asked.

"Movies in the common room don't try to eat your face," Karla couldn't help but point out.

The fish were fast flyers; this was so not a crossbow kind of day, or Kennedy would be dinner five times before she had a chance to reload.

It was a good day to test out the singularly obsessive strength-training regimen she'd put herself on with the goal of being able to use her birthday sword in situations like this, though.

So yes, that would be Kennedy out there with a giant honking broadsword in both hands, more than happy to hack away at schools of flying, bitey fish, but finding that it was still enough of an effort that she didn't have time for all those witty school quips that came to mind.

Bah.

Karla was had her shields up, not wanting to earn yet another lecture on the topic. Her Cinquedea waiting to be called in, but she was mostly using Craft to blast the nasty things. Using a sword meant letting these things get closer to her face and, shield or not, she wasn't all that keen on that.

"Stay down, damn you!" she hissed. Wretched things.

"Not even the ones in three-d," Ben said, swiping at a fish and looking slightly exasperated as it tried to chomp on his shoulder. "Though these things sound like something that would come out of a bad movie."

"I don't know for sure," Tahiri answered, eyes twinkling -- yes, while she hacked through a piranha with the blade end of the gaderffii, "but I bet it's something they can really sink their teeth into."

"Both," Firekeeper made a face. "The way he jump back after he taste, I don't think cooking would help much."

Today was going to be a Materia day, and the Buster Sword was going to stay pretty firmly at Zack's back. It wasn't that Zack didn't want to use his sword, of course, but he'd always found that the best way to take down swarming monsters was with a spell that could target an area. Blizzara, Thundara, Fira.

He'd stuffed his pockets full of potions, too. Huge surprise.

"Bring it on!"

He was having way, way too much fun right now, yes.

"That was terrible," he informed her with a groan, then his eyes narrowed. "Duck." His lightsaber swung out.

"Yeah, I'm not thinking this will end in a campfire full of dinner," he agreed. His boots slid a little bit as he stepped in fish goo. "This is gross."

"A short-range defence blaster." She nodded. "It is actually meant mostly for protection from wild animals -- or a hostile boarding party -- but it wasn't designed with this sort in mind."

He chuckled. "I don't know of many weapons that are," he said. He swung out with his lightsaber, frying a piranha as it flew too close. "I don't know what would be a better choice--they move pretty fast for something long-range..."
