Homecoming Carnival Post II | Park | Friday | October 22

The Homecoming Carnival was in full swing and decorated according to the theme: blues and greens of all sorts, and little fish decorations everywhere.

But that wasn't the important part, oh no.

The important part was how much fun could be had at all of the booths! Step up, step up! Take your chances!

Really, who would want to miss this?

"Well everyone else was here to kiss me." Actually Nico wasn't, but bygones. "I can only assume you're here for the same reason."

"Why would I wanna kiss you?"

Yeah, Luke, answer that question since Percy had no freaking idea even if there were about a hundred different confusing thoughts in his head when it came to Luke.

"Do you need a reason?" he asked. "Nobody else gave me a reason."

"Well, you're assuming I'm here to take part in your booth so I thought you'd have a reason ready to go," Percy said, shrugging. "But hey, if you don't, I can go and find someone else to kiss."

Luke rolled his eyes. Part of him really kind of wanted to kiss Percy, just to see what it'd be like (at least that was the reason he gave himself), but he wasn't about to beg for it.

"I think you're just trying to avoid it with all this needing a reason thing," he said. "It's not that big of a deal."

He was nervous for some completely different reason. Really.

"I don't avoid things," Percy said, sticking his chin out since that sounded like a challenge. "I don't see you going for it, you know. Don't make me out to be the wuss."

"I'm not a wuss. I have no problem with kissing you." He just felt like standing there and doing nothing. It was fun.

"You're a wuss because you're just standing there," Percy said challengingly. "You're waiting for me to drop some money before moving your ass."

Luke wanted to point out that, yeah, Percy really should pay, but that kind of made him sound like a whore. He didn't really need that comparison.

After a few more moments, Luke mumbled something that sounded a whole lot like "fuck it" and walked around the booth. If he was gonna do this, he was gonna do it right and without some stupid table between them.

"Come here," Luke said, reaching for the front of Percy's shirt to drag him closer. He looked pretty annoyed, which was not surprising considering who he was talking to.

If Percy expected this to happen, he didn't know it. In fact, he'd kind of expected Luke to get pissed and start yelling. Instead, his shirt was getting grabbed and he was getting dragged closer to Luke and his annoyed expression.

He didn't say anything because he didn't know what to say. Instead, he kind of stood as tall as he could and met Luke's gaze steady on, almost daring him to do something now.

Almost as soon as he grabbed Percy, Luke wished he had just yelled instead of moving. This could make things really awkward between them. Well, more awkward than it already was.

But he couldn't just back down now. He had made a move and now he had to follow through with it or else Percy would never let him live it down. So after a few moments of looking down at Percy, Luke decided to get the inevitable over with and leaned down to kiss him.

Percy spared an idle thought that they were about to really make their relationship awkward in a very public place. Before, it'd been strained and tenuous but now, they were going to add a whole new layer to it.

Still, he wasn't about to back down and he couldn't really deny that a part of him wanted to do this and had wanted to do this for a while now. Luke's eyes weren't golden, he wasn't the owner of a cruise ship and he hadn't betrayed everyone.

The only bad thing was that Percy was shorter than Luke so he could had to lean up to try and meet Luke halfway, letting himself believe that this was actually going to happen.

Luke immediately felt relieved when Percy moved to meet him for the kiss. He didn't want to take complete charge of this whole thing. It sort of made it seem like this wasn't all just some stupid attempt to shut Percy up, even if it had started out that way. Luke had no idea when he started caring about that.

He really couldn't recall being this nervous about a kiss before, but Luke did his best to make it memorable when they did actually kiss. And only part of that was because he didn't want Percy to make some smartass comment after they were done.

Percy probably wasn't even going to be able to think of a smartass comment after this. His brain was going to be too addled and too confused to get out something quippy. He'd be lucky if he managed coherent.

Of course, that wasn't for right now because his mouth was a little busy and he was a little busy actually moving closer to Luke. His hands were still at his sides but he was thinking of changing that. He just hadn't made it there yet.

Percy had thought a lot about Luke and had observed even more but he'd never imagined what this would feel like. Now he had actual knowledge.

Luke's hand was still twisted in Percy's shirt, and he took advantage of that by using it to keep Percy close to him. It also meant Luke's fingers were brushing against Percy's chest through his shirt, which was an added bonus as far as Luke was concerned.

When did he start thinking touching Percy was a good thing?

Whatever, Luke could think about that later. Right now he was concentrating on kissing and ignoring the fact that this was quickly surpassing the length and chasteness of the other kisses he's had today.

Without really realizing it, one of Percy's hands did finally move. It settled on Luke's hip and his fingers twisted immediately in the fabric of his shirt. If he thought about it, he could almost imagine armor there and a sword at Luke's side but they weren't playing war games or under attack.

No, they were in the middle of their school, making out with each other in a crowd and apparently enjoying themselves. He didn't want to move away and considering he'd been reluctant to kiss anyone else, that said something.

Using his tip toes (and not caring if he'd take flack for that), he tried to lean up closer to Luke, get closer or something. He didn't know why save for the fact that it felt good.

Percy touching him spurred Luke on, and he lifted up his free hand to curl around the back of Percy's neck. He just barely suppressed the urge to put his fingers in Percy's hair and mess it up like he had seen Percy do so many times before. Some extremely stupid, delusional part of him thought he might get the chance to do it later.

The other part of him knew that this was a stupid thing to do and that they were both probably going to regret it later. Luke tried to ignore it and focus on just how much he was enjoying this, but his already overcrowded thoughts kept drifting over that way.

Later, Percy didn't know if he'd regret this so much as wonder what in the hell they'd both been thinking and why it had happened. He figured he'd say he regretted it but it'd be a lie.

He knew that this had gone on far longer than some stupid kissing booth kiss should have but he couldn't make himself care. Most of his logical brain had fogged up with thoughts that he didn't really want this to stop and he wanted to keep feeling Luke's hands and mouth on him.

Percy...really didn't know what part of his brain was thinking that but he was listening.

Eventually the need to know what the hell this was and what was going on won out over blissfully ignoring the fact that they were making out in front of the whole school. Luke pulled away after a few more moments and regretted it almost as soon as he did it.

He still kept his hands where they were, and had only moved back enough so he could see Percy's face, but it was enough of a break to let reality settle in. Luke looked like he wanted to say something, but was caught between being scared as hell and wanting to just kiss Percy again in order to stave off the inevitable awkwardness.

For a minute, Percy kept his eyes shut like that would stall any probable awkwardness. Still, he knew he wasn't going to be able to do that forever so he finally opened his eyes and stared at Luke.

It wasn't like he hadn't done that before but this was a whole lot different. The fog in his brain was starting to clear but he didn't have words or explanations or any witty quips.

"Um..." Luke knew the easy way out of this was to say something insulting and pretend to brush off any awkwardness, but for some reason he was reluctant to do it. He wasn't even sure if could make it sound convincing.

Luke could see Percy was just as confused as he was, which was sort of comforting in a weird way. He slid his hands away from Percy, trying to ignore how reluctant he was to do it. "I'm, um, sorry."

He had no idea what he was apologizing for but he couldn't think of anything else to say.

"What?" Percy didn't think he could be blamed for not immediately processing what Luke said all things considered. Instead, he raked his fingers back through his hair and shook his head.

"Yeah, uh, yeah, me too," he finally added when he realized Luke had apologized. He looked up at Luke again, forcing a smile before his eyes flicked away. "It wasn't your fault or anything. Yeah."

Luke nodded, even if it did kind of feel like his fault. They could have just fought like usual if he hadn't been a complete idiot. And he thought Percy was supposed to be the impulsive one here.

"I should probably..." Luke made an awkward gesture back towards the booth.

"Yeah, no, right," Percy said, finally taking a few unsure steps back and away from Luke. "Um, good luck with the rest of the day."

That was such a lame thing to say. Such a lame thing. Percy wanted to correct himself or say something smoother but there was nothing there so he gave Luke an abbreviated wave and turned around to disappear into the crowd.
