Devil's Nest [Friday night, after sunset]

Eric Northman didn't get nervous over club openings--he saved his nerves for important things like potentially meeting the sun, getting staked or talking with Nan Flanagan--but he was a tad...apprehensive. It would be embarrassing to throw a party and not have anyone show up.

Tiny, the enormous bouncer, was at the door waiting to check IDs, the newly hired DJ was in the booth, the lights were dimmed, the bar was staffed, the overpriced appetizers were being prepped...it was time to get started.

Eric slouched into his leather booth in the VIP section, put a vaguely bored expression on his face and waved his hand at Tiny to open the doors.

"And aren't you looking lovely?" Emma asked, giving a little twirl just for Kate. "I'm glad you decided I was more fun than Kansas."

"Not just Kansas, but even the guy I'm seeing," Kate pointed out with a laugh, even if it wasn't strictly speaking true. All plans with Zach had been for Saturday, anyway. "You should be proud."

"Well, I hope I rate higher than a boy!" Emma scoffed, tossing her hair over her shoulder. "I'm much prettier, for one."

"Well yeah, but you hardly ever take me out to dinner." Of course, Emma had never dumped her for having a room that was too immature, either, but she thought that was irrelevant and just twirled once, instead. "Or offer to buy me nice things so I'll feel like a princess."

"Since you're already a princess, do you really need more nice things?" Emma asked. "I'm sure I can manage dinner, if by dinner you mean 'Emma orders delivery.'"

"But I'm not a princess." Well, not anymore. "And can you ever really have enough nice things? But I'll gladly take takeout if you do decide to feed me."

"Screw princess, then," Emma replied, reaching for Kate's hand to spin her about. "Be the queen of the whole damn world. That's my philosophy, anyway."

"Sounds like too much responsibility," Kate quipped, letting Emma take her hand because she could be spun, sure. "I think I'll settle for queen of the third floor for now."
