When Nathan wandered into the bar that evening, he was feeling a little devious. And, until someone took pity on him and visited, he was going to take out that deviousness on Tino. So, he grabbed a glass and a bottle, leaned against the counter and announced they were gonna play Truth or Dare.

Tino seemed cool with it so after a few rounds of them both picking truth, Tino finally picked dare. With a smug, sly grin, Nathan proudly told Tino what his dare would be. And that was how Tino came to pour several cheap bottles of beer down his pants.

Nathan thought he was a fucking genius.

Caroline peered over the counter to check out Tino's damp pants. "Oh gross! Send him home or something. Dude, get some depends if you need them..." So nasty.

Nathan was still laughing when he put the glass down and refilled it because it was fucking funny.

"He didn't piss himself," Nathan finally told her, glancing at Tino. "We were playing Truth or Dare and he chose dare and I dared him to dump two beer bottles down his pants. And, as I am sure you know, the rules of Truth or Dare require the dare to be completed or else!"

What 'else' was, Nathan didn't know but it was something bad!

"Or else what?" Caroline asked. "I never did understand how that worked with Truth or Dare." Besides, she'd always picked truth with the girls. Made gossiping more fun.

"Well, I hadn't figured out those consequences yet but they would have been severe!"

Maybe he'd have made Tino kiss a zombie or lick a dirty toilet or something. Tino huffed a little and sort of waddled towards the bathrooms to clean his pants off.

"You drove him away," Nathan pointed out, snickering. "Probably thought you wouldn't check him out with his wet, soiled pants."

Nathan was so getting a look that said she thought he'd lost his mind. "Dude, I wouldn't ever check him out," Caroline corrected. "I have standards, okay?"

"Sluuuuuuuuuuuumming," Nathan singsonged at her before pushing his full glass towards her so she couldn't pull the 'you didn't serve me!' shit with him at any point.

He grinned at her though and took a few swigs of the booze from the bottle before digging in his pocket to pull his wallet out. There was something he'd been meaning to do for a week now.

"You think I'm slumming?" Caroline raised an eyebrow at him as she watched him pulling out his wallet. Not that she had any clue what he was doing...paying her for...something?

"Haven't I told you I think you're slumming before?" Nathan asked, pulling out a few dollars, folding them up and passing them across to her.

Paying her wasn't in the cards. Something else was. "You drink for free, Caroline. No money required. It's a rule. A law. It's a guideline that steadies my life on a daily basis, Caroline."

Attempting to avoid starting that conversation again, Caroline bypassed his first reply and focused on the second part. "Keep it," she shrugged. "Consider it payment for future drinks I steal from you while we're out."

Yeah, Nathan kind of figured she wouldn't take it back but he'd been carrying it around in his wallet for like a week and just now remembered it was there. So, he didn't argue while he put the money back in his wallet and stuck the wallet back in his pocket.

So, he didn't say anything while he downed whatever liquor he'd poured in his glass. He hadn't been good and drunk in a week or so and it felt like a good night to fix that. "Since you chased off my Truth or Dare partner, you wanna take his place in the game?"

"You want to play Truth or Dare with me?" If Caroline seemed worried, well, that was just because there was no way in hell this would end well.

"Yup." He gave his eyebrows a waggle and grinned at her. "You're not afraid, are you? It's just a little game, Caroline. We can even go sit in the lounge for more privacy if you're shy and don't want Tino to interrupt."

"Me? Afraid?" Caroline scoffed at him. "No, I was simply acting concerned for you. Do you really think you can handle playing this game with me?"

"I can handle anything," he said, refilling his glass and then pointing at it. "Grab the glass, let's go to the lounge. Tino can man the bar and hide his wet pants behind the counter."

Nathan was grabbing the bottle and already coming around the bar, smirking widely and smugly as he did.

"Just remember you said that," Caroline replied, reaching for the glass, intending to drink it all while she followed in Nathan's wake. "No crying because I'm too mean or some other boy bullshit. You know who you're dealing with here."

Nathan turned around and walked backwards, smirk still firmly in place. "I am not afraid of you, Caroline."

And hey, that was true for both this game and all the other things she wanted to warn him about. He just wasn't afraid.

"So, bring it," he challenged, backing into the lounge and dropping down onto one of the couches. "Game on."

Game on. So not a phrase Caroline liked, being as those were the last words she heard as a human.

Ugh.

"I always bring it," she smirked, downing the drink fast. "Truth or dare, Nate."

Grinning, Nathan passed her the bottle so she could fill the glass again. He was going to be so so drunk and if he knew her, she'd be right there with him.

"It's Nathan and let's go..." Nathan tapped his chin thoughtfully. "Oh, what the hell, let's go truth first. Start it out easy because dares might mean getting up and I just got comfortable."

And Nathan figured he could guess a few of her dares and he wanted to put those off so he'd just trot out his unashamed self and see where that got him.

"Well, let's make this truth interesting, then," Caroline replied, thinking it over as she poured herself another glass and tilted her head toward her shoulder. "Hmm. Oh I know! Everyone's jealous of someone else for whatever reason, right? Who are you jealous of and why?"

"Hmm." It'd be cheating to say he wasn't jealous of anyone at all ever? And it'd be a lie since she'd seen his jealousy in action so maybe that was out. Interesting that she'd brought up jealousy up with her first question, though.

"I'm really fucking jealous of Jeremy because that twat gets my mum's attention more than I do lately," he said even if she probably guessed that. "Fucking whore doesn't deserve it. I don't even want to think of the things they're doing while I'm not around."

Ugh. Uuuuugh.

"And I'm kinda jealous of Professor Lee because that bitch is famous and rich and shit and I'm poor and beautiful and shit."

Nathan was jealous of his mother's boyfriend and some teacher? Wow.

Wow.

"Who's Professor Lee?"

Nathan was jealous of more than that but she hadn't said anything about the parameters and limitations of who he could name and who he couldn't name.

"The bloke who teaches our class on Friday," Nathan said, shrugging and drinking straight from the bottle. "I was being proper and respectful. The guy with the out of control eyebrows."

Look who was talking.

"Oh God, the sideburns are worse," Caroline replied, if only to avoid having to compare that teacher's eyebrows to Nathan's. "So you seriously want to be old, huh?"

"I didn't say that. I said I wanted to be rich and famous."

And some day he would be before getting felled by fucking milk. That was a story for another day.

"I don't plan on getting old even if I know I'd age fucking gracefully as shit. I've no plans to age past twenty two or so. That's it for me. I will be young, rugged, and studly forever."

Caroline was the only one sitting on this sofa who was never getting old, but she didn't have the heart to point that out.

"Why do you think you'll age so gracefully?"
