So, it was Nathan's last shift (that he knew of, at least) at the bar. It was his last shift at a job he'd actually liked more often than not so he was feeling a little verklempt. When Tino offered to hug him, Nathan made to accept that hug before veering off and smacking the back of Tino's head. There were no weepy hugs happening here. Not tonight. Tonight, he planned on having an enjoyable last shift. A handwritten sign ended up out front of Caritas:

It's my last fucking day at work! Come help me celebrate!
Alcohol is free (unless I decide otherwise and I have that right) and any girl that flashes me might get extra special attention.
Lap dances from Tino sold separately. Lap dances from me? We'll talk.

That done, Nathan was back behind the bar, drinking a glass of his favorite whiskey and enjoying himself on a job well done.

"...Free?"

Rude had a feeling this was going to be a beautiful night.

"Yep!" Nathan said, holding his drink up and toasting the unfamiliar bloke. "Free as a bird! Free as can fucking be! Freer than a virgin's hold on her flower! Free!"

"Then give me a glass of your... strongest and finest."

He wasn't going to let "free" go to waste.

"You gonna let me pick what I serve you, mate?" Nathan asked, raising an eyebrow. "Beer, gin, tequila, whiskey, bartender's choice? Are you putting that very special choice in my hands?"

Rude nodded his head, ever so slightly.

"Don't... disappoint me." It wasn't a request.

"Oooh, ominous," Nathan said, turning around and surveying the many, many choices he had. "So, does that mean I can't give you something pinky and fruity with a little tiny umbrella? My roommate loves that and she's a bit of a badass herself. It doesn't take away from her badassery!"

"As long as it's... strong."

Rude didn't want something pink and fruity, but he'd drink whatever. And if it was free, he didn't particularly care.

"Brave man," Nathan said, shaking a finger at Rude before running his fingers along various bottles. His fingers settled upon one bottle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Kraken_Rum) and he pulled it out with a grin.

"I think this one might do," Nathan told him, reaching for a glass and pouring it before sliding it across the bar. "I can add a little umbrella if you think you're man enough to take it."

"I can take anything you can... dish out," Rude answered.

Especially little umbrellas.

He took a swig from the glass first, though. "Not bad."

"Next up, I'll just pour some fucking jet fuel in a mason jar for you, yeah?" Nathan quipped, smirking.

Jono was leaving tomorrow. As much as that was a horrible thing to contemplate, Karla wasn't about to let him go without one last night out, drinking his favorite chewy beers or whatever else he wanted. Part of her was hoping that maybe he'd get so second-hand drunk he'd put off the goodbye for another few day. The other parts just hoped that this would be a suitable way to say goodbye to a dear friend of hers.

Not that she was going to allow any signs of sadness to show through.

"Did you see that sign?" Karla asked, dragging Jono into Caritas. "You can get a goodbye lapdance!"

//Just what I always wanted,// Jono intoned dryly as he tripped along after her. //A lapdance. From Tino.//

No. No he did not.

//I hear he's got wandering hands, you know. I think I'll pass.//

"Your psychic voice says no, but my sense of mischief says 'maybe,'" Karla threatened. "How will you know I'm missing you if you don't have a memory like this to look back on as a goodbye?"

//I suspect that a memory like that would be far more effective in reminding me just how badly you wanted me gone,// Jono countered, crossing his arms over his chest and looking about as stubborn as he could manage.

Karla pouted at him. "How could you say that?" she asked, trying to sound closer to 'hurt' than 'about to laugh.' "I bring you out for a night of chewy beers and high-end entertainment and you accuse me of trying to get rid of you! Jono, I'm both hurt and shocked."

Really. Look into those big blue eyes, Jono, and say you don't trust Karla's motives.

... Yes, Jono trusted Karla about as far as he could throw her.

Which wasn't very far. Honest.

//By high-end entertainment, I was assuming you were referring to th'zombies,// he pointed out, nodding toward them. And not at all jealous that a bunch of dead guys were going farther in their musical career than he ever would, damn them all. //Not to th'possibility of Tino, gyrating terrifyingly close to my crotch.//

The lack of trust hurt, Jono. Hurt like an elbow to the eye from an ill-conceived lap dance maneuver.

"Don't you want to help him start on his journey towards his dreams and personal fulfillment?" Karla asked. "Also what beers--ahem, I'm sorry. What lagers should we start with this evening?"

//Carling,// Jono decided, after a moment's thought, refusing, thus far, to take a seat.

Lap dances worked better when there was sitting involved, was the thing.

//And I imagine Tino can start himself down that path towards personal fulfillment without making use of my lap to get him there. But yer more than welcome to get a dance for yerself. I won't tell anyone.//

"But, Jono, I'm not leaving!" Karla protested, having no problems with taking a seat at the bar. "I don't need a goodbye lap dance to send me on my way."

"Two Carlings, please," she called. One for her to drink and another for Jono to hold.

See, that was what Jono liked about Karla. She was thoughtful.

It would take quite a few Carlings to get Jono drunk enough to do that much, yes.
