Sock Hop - Community Center, Saturday Evening (8/20)

It was Saturday night and time to grab your best gal for one heck of a dance. Or your best guy. Maybe your best sentient robot. Look, Fandom didn't judge your lifestyle choices.

The community center was decorated with the requisite streamers and glittery things to make it look like a disco threw up all over the 50's. But it was hardly a dance without unfortunate glitter, right? Right!

So, throw on a poodle skirt (or leather jacket) and get ready for a good time! And remember, this dance is open to all!

"Basic black," she said, then held out her nails, face sobering a little. They were painted red now, but the black showed through just a little. "In many things."

"That sounds ominous," Bruce said. Yeah, he picked up on cues like that. "Is something wrong?"

Well, he was the world's greatest detective. Not that Scully knew that.

"My fingernails turned black after that -- thing, with the infection." She turned them so he could see the undersides. "They're much harder, more like claws. It's been over a week and there's been no change."

"Well, you did want things to be different this time around," Bruce deadpanned as he took a look. "No other lasting effects?"

"This wasn't exactly what I had in mind," Scully said, smiling a little anyway. She turned them over, examining them, biting her lip. The polish needed to be re-touched, but there'd never be pale colors in her collection again. "And no. Thank God. The mental side was much worse than the physical, and I suppose it could be something more obvious."

"They're really not that noticeable. And now you'll never be without a decent weapon," Bruce said, looking on the bright side. "I wouldn't concern myself with it too much."

Of course, if had happened to Bruce, he'd still be off doing tests on the claws in a cave. So make of that what you will.

Scully gave him an amused, cockeyed glance, then turned more considering. "They were useful for getting out of the restraints in the Clinic." Not being tied up again? That would be a bonus. "So you might have a point there." What *could* she cut through with these things?

"Just watch it if you have a fight or flight impulse to gouge someone's eyes. You'd do serious damage with them," Bruce said.

So lovely! She probably ought to do a few tests to see how much of a risk that was; she'd already had a hell of time filing them down to where they wouldn't curve over her fingers. "Thank you, Fandom." She sighed. "Anyway... how was your invasion week? I didn't see you while I was compos mentis, and if I saw you while I was crazy, please don't tell me."

"It wasn't too bad for me. Spent some time in Arkham talking to people, got knocked out that Saturday and woke up in the town's joke shop once everything was over," Bruce said. "Could have been much worse."

"It's like we live in a siege state, or a border city," Scully said. "We're used to what can happen by now, and what kind of risk there is. As long as we're in one piece and functional, we're fine."

"I wouldn't take it that far," Bruce said. "There's danger here, but it's not constant and it's usually not life-threatening. With that in mind, it's actually one of the calmer places I've seen."

"Really?" Scully gave him a curious look, his previous remark coming back. "Like where? The Arkham you mentioned?"

"Arkham was the town we were attached to that week," Bruce said. "But that place wasn't dangerous. Not after the infection moved to Fandom."

"I was so distracted and compromised I didn't even know," Scully said with some regret. "And good. I'd hate to think that we'd passed along the infection to others in the process of eliminating it here."

"From what I understand, the rock was the cause of the whole thing. And I heard that was shot into orbit, so it should be fine," Bruce said. "Unless it leaves us to eventually fight literal space monsters."

"Bring them on," Scully deadpanned, holding up her claws. "We'll be ready this time." And not touch anything, good God.

"Actually, we probably won't be. But we'll react quickly," Bruce said, tending toward realism there.
