Sock Hop - Community Center, Saturday Evening (8/20)

It was Saturday night and time to grab your best gal for one heck of a dance. Or your best guy. Maybe your best sentient robot. Look, Fandom didn't judge your lifestyle choices.

The community center was decorated with the requisite streamers and glittery things to make it look like a disco threw up all over the 50's. But it was hardly a dance without unfortunate glitter, right? Right!

So, throw on a poodle skirt (or leather jacket) and get ready for a good time! And remember, this dance is open to all!

What Peter had decided to wear to this shin-dig was... pretty much what he usually wore, if scaled up a little bit for the opportunity. He hadn't let Val coerce him into coming this time - he was fully intent on working the room and finding some people with powers to throw in with.

Theme? Topher scoffed at themes. So he showed up anyway in his usual sweater vest, hair mussed due to having only woken up an hour earlier.

Mainly, he was here for the free food.

Nathan only vaguely knew what the fuck a sock hop was but hey, he tried to dress the part anyway. For him, that meant combing his hair a bit, cuffing his skinny jeans, wearing a pair of beat up Converse and pairing it with a loosened tie.

If it wasn't sock hop attire, he didn't give a fuck. He looked damn good and that's what mattered. At least he didn't have to shove himself into an uncomfortable suit.

That hadn't been too hard and maybe all dances should have a 50s theme. Even if Jake couldn't remember that the 50s were quite so glittery. Then again, it wasn't like he'd ever been to the 50s. Mostly because he hadn't been to the mainland since the island moved.

Toby wasn't entirely sure why he'd decided to come to the dance. Too many people in too close a space tended to get overwhelming pretty fast. But there was the picnic next week, and he supposed this would be good practice for that... and besides, how many dances would there be where he'd actually be able to fit the dress code with his existing wardrobe?

Caroline had once created a '50s era dance and it had been fantastic, so her eyes were a little extra judgmental and jealous as she took in the scene of this event.

It was slowly killing her controlling soul to just show up at the community center wearing her recycled sock hop outfit (http://images4.fanpop.com/image/polls/689000/689076_1302804113680_full.png) since there was barely enough notice to obtain a new one. She'd taken forever getting ready, awkwardly recalling how this dance had ended last time and spending a lot of time missing her friends back home.

But hey, she'd gotten there and she looked good and that was all that mattered.

Elphaba wasn't much of a dancer... well, she liked to dance, but she wasn't particularly good at it. She sort of danced to the beat of her own drum.

Yet, she arrived at the sock hop, wondering if there would be actually any socks hopping around. She'd worn a nice sleeveless blue dress that by modern standards was quite modest, but to her was just about as daring as she dared.

Bruce didn't really wear jeans or leather jackets much. But he did have a certain quality that fit in with virtually any era, given certain subtle changes in fashion or how old (or male) the people he hung around were. It was probably because he was filthy rich, and that was always in fashion.

But more practically, Bruce showed up in gray slacks and a nice button up sweater over a button up shirt. Coming from a guy who owned an ungodly number of nearly identical suits, this was dressing down.

Annie didn't have anything like a poodle skirt, but she did already have a dress that was kind of 50's inspired, if slightly shorter than they probably actually wore in the 50's. It made her feel retro. She even put her hair in a ponytail, thinking that just fit the theme better.

It was just really too bad she was already finding glitter all over her. And she hadn't even touched anything yet.

She was trying hard not to think about how this was probably one of her last in Fandom. Instead, she admired the decorations, taking in all the glitter. That was highly amusing. Even if it was getting all over her shirt. That's what she got for wearing a black top.

As usual, Dave didn't really know what to do here. He was pretty sure he was actually dressed like a nerd from the 50s - minus the glasses and pocket protector - but at least it was something. And at least he showed up. That counted as trying, right?

Freddie may end up regretting coming to the sock hop. Not out of anything because of the hop itself, but because he'd left Sam the Honey Badger in his room. Possibly alone.

But in his white tee, jeans, and leather jacket, it was as if Freddie was an adorable, innocent, young Marlon Brando.

He so didn't pull off the tough-guy look.

Perhaps a dance was a good way to distract Alice from the dark thoughts on her mind? Leto hoped so. He turned and smiled at her and squeezed her hand, then leaned in to kiss her lightly.

No, he didn't pay much attention to the decor and theme, but he hoped Alice would let him know if there was anything he needed to know about the music, if only because he wanted to hear her voice.

It was considerate of the powers that be to schedule one last dance before Jack had to head back to London, he thought. He wasn't wearing anything special, but his normal clothes -- white shirt, dark pants, tailored jacket -- was timeless enough to blend in with any era.

Quinn sort of thought every day could be '50s dress-up day, but she made sure to go for an especially full skirt (http://www.bluevelvetvintage.com/images/P/repr0484v1.jpg) today, and her hair was up in a period-appropriate ponytail.

She was happy and relaxed as she made it to the dance, ready to mingle.

Ramona showed up, hair newly dyed, in the closest thing she had (http://www.modcloth.com/Modcloth/Womens/Dresses/-Made+in+the+Shades+Dress). Poodle skirt it was not, and lord willing it never would be, but it was vintage, and it was cute, and she was going to let that just count for something, thanks.

Oh, and fruit punch. Mmmm.

Cassel would have fit in better with a dance set in the 30's or 40's, but he slicked back his hair some and wore his typical black clothes and thought maybe he could pass for a greaser or an early beatnik or something.

Naturally he picked a shadowy corner to hang out in because, while he did dance, he wasn't really in the mood at the moment. Instead he'd be creepy and people watch. Mostly he was judging people on their outfits.
