Sock Hop - Community Center, Saturday Evening (8/20)

It was Saturday night and time to grab your best gal for one heck of a dance. Or your best guy. Maybe your best sentient robot. Look, Fandom didn't judge your lifestyle choices.

The community center was decorated with the requisite streamers and glittery things to make it look like a disco threw up all over the 50's. But it was hardly a dance without unfortunate glitter, right? Right!

So, throw on a poodle skirt (or leather jacket) and get ready for a good time! And remember, this dance is open to all!

Surreal just cocked an eyebrow at him. "Do you need to meet more than one?"

Seriously. Aristos.

Peter waited a beat. "Guess that tells me all I need to know about her, then," he said. "You're not very impressed by all of this, are you?"

"By the dance, or your dance?" Surreal asked without missing a beat.

"If you wanted to know about Karla, you'd go talk to one of her cohorts."

"Maybe I just want to know about you," Peter suggested, trying not to look too rattled. "And you don't seem like the type to go into elaborate tales about your background."

"I don't," she agreed simply. "Saves me the trouble of having people fall asleep during my stories."

"Neither are you, are you?"

"Not much to tell," Peter said, shrugging. "I'm as normal as they come. But around here, that makes knowing the right people all the more important."

Might as well put some of his cards on the table.

"Sugar, there ain't no one normal around here," Surreal laughed. "If you're in with the rest of us inmates, you're either lying to me, or to yourself."

"Fine, as normal as they come here, then," he said. "I can't stick my head through walls or fly or break stone with my fists. I'm just a smart guy with ambition, much like you're just a witch with a cynical streak."

"Just a witch with a cynical streak," she agreed mildly. "Although your kitten might disagree."

"My kitten is an idiot," Peter said, just as mildly. "What'd he do?"

No, he had absolutely no problem with calling Topher 'his kitten'.

"We just had a bit of a misunderstanding," Surreal replied, with a bit of a purr. "He misunderstood that when I say to do something, he should listen."

Like, say, go to the clinic instead of picking fights with the girl with the knives.

Peter threw a look Topher's way from where they were standing. "Pity," he commented. "I thought he'd look more maimed."

"He was a bit gray-ish at the time," Surreal told him. "I'm not sure if the pink and fleshy is an improvement or not."

"Oh, it's not," Peter said, cheerfully. "I just had to whack him in the head for leaving contaminated gloves in my room during that whole debacle."
