The Park, Monday Evening

Portals elsewhere might break, send you to the wrong planet, or leave you hanging; this one was forever faithful to its own schedule.

Sadly, for those denizens of the island who might have grown attached to their children, that meant it was time to say goodbye. The portal popped up blazing purple in the center of the park, calling to those it had taken here just a few days ago.

Time to go, time to go home, children.

[[ for your AU kidlet goodbyes! Sniff. ]]

Seifer didn't want to be here, but her knew he wasn't really in the right place to be a dad, and Sylvie needed to go home before her parents came to get her.

He hugged her tight and slipped a letter in her pocket. "Make sure your dad gets that when you get home, okay. It's a reminder about the chocobo and the pony and why you're going to be nice to Tempest now. So he doesn't forget."

He wasn't going to cry or anything like that.

Rinoa knelt down before her little girl. Sylvie. A precious blonde little angel (okay, spoiled, but that didn't make her less of an angel, shut up) and one she hadn't imagined she would see again. She was blessed to have met her twice.

And she was so unbelievably grateful Seifer had met her at all.

"Tell them how good you were," she said, and she was choking on it. Dammit. Dammit. "But they'll know you were good. Because you always are. Right, Sylvie?"

Sylvie launched herself at Rinoa, giggling. "Of course I am, Mommy."

Of course she was. Just don't ask Tempest's parents.

"Now, get your bottom through that portal," Seifer said, as soon as the girls were done hugging.

Of course she was. She was beautiful. She was ...

Rinoa pressed her lips to Sylvie's forehead. She might never see her again. She could only hope Sylvie's life would be as charmed as the first four years had been.

"We love you, Angel," Rinoa said, standing up and slipping an arm around Seifer's waist. She needed to hold on to him. Please. Was that okay?

Because she didn't trust her knees right now, as she watched their little girl bounce away from them.

She was more than welcome to hold on, and Seifer hugged her as Sylvie ran through the portal without looking back.

"So, you've got a couple more to say goodbye to...?"

Rinoa was not letting go yet.

"I do," she said. "But I ... I need a minute."

She shivered, unable to keep herself from tearing up.

"She's so beautiful," she murmured.

They should have kept her. They could totally raise a little girl. As separated parents. Really. It would work out.
