Caritas, Monday

While Jake wouldn't quite call it brooding, Mother's Day had always managed to get him down just a bit. So he was drowning his sorrows the day after in the tried and true Doyle way: drinking.

He'd probably serve you a drink too, if you wanted. Probably.

Oh, so there had been a holiday or something, yesterday? Jono hadn't even realized. After all, Mother's Day was in a completely different month back in the UK, and his own mother was... something of a failure when it came to mothering, if a few months of quality time with a gaping chest wound and no visitors despite making international news was any indication.

So he wasn't really all that bothered by missing the holiday. What was kind of eating at him was the realization that the island seemed to have grown a great deal lonelier since graduation. And what better way to combat loneliness than by sitting on a barstool, knocking back imported beer, and looking terribly antisocial?

It was one of his great talents. Don't you dare judge.

Some people! Jono wasn't generally one of those people, either. He did glance up with a raised eyebrow, though, taking a moment to... decipher that.

"Assuming that means I'm looking like I'm in a mood and generally unapproachable," you know, in real-people language, "it really isn't much different from how I normally look, mate."

Mary didn't have a problem with Mother's Day. She did have an issue with spending another night in her suite watching Lifetime movies with Gunther. So there she was at the bar, ordering a Shirley Temple from Tino and giving Jake a warm smile.

Jaye wasn't brooding. She had, though, been expected to be home, all weekend for Mother's Day, which meant that today she was in the bar.

"Beer," she said. "Beer beer beer."

It was that kind of weekend.

"I work in my basement," Jono sighed. "Much as I love the theatre, I need to take some time away from that every now and again that doesn't involve a quick jaunt back to my own reality, then coming back covered in bruises or mildly concussed."

Callie wasn't sure how she hadn't found the bar sooner -- oh, right, because she had alcohol in her room. But this was socializing, and with adults, unlike the teenage creatures that were in her class.

"Vodka martini, dry," she said, taking a stool at the bar. She checked her lipstick in her compact's mirror one last time before closing it and taking in the bartender. "Is this the usual crowd for a Monday?"

She was new.

"I should get out more often if it will make you smile," said Mary. "How's your day going?"

Tall, blue and broody was getting a drink sent over, courtesy of the pretends to act like a lady. Scotch seemed about right for world-weariness. At least it looked classier than sending over a beer.

"You're in a bar, but you're not drinking," Callie said.

It wasn't entirely meant to be antagonistic. Callie was just bad at making friends.

"Good day for double-fisting them," Callie noted, lifting her own martini in solidarity.

"Recovering alcoholic, and I wasn't in the mood for coffee," said Mary. "It kind of narrows down the choices."

Antagonistic or not, she was happy to talk to anyone who wasn't Gunther.

"Are you saying you could use some company?" Callie asked, leaning back with a grin.

See Succubus. See Succubus Flirt.

"Oh dear," said Mary with a little smirk. "When it's been quiet for the sheriff, then maybe I should stock up on ammunition for the next thing to strike the island."
