From the looks of it, today was an experiment day at Caritas, with Tino mixing random things together to create something new. After a while of watching him, Kitty looked at the drinks lined up and said, "You just want to make different colors, don't you?"

Which wouldn't seem like a bad thing, until he got Kitty to actually try one of them.

"Okay, that was a bad idea, never do this sort of thing again," she decided, turning to get herself a glass of water.

April was new in town. She'd been here for... just about an hour, actually. Summer employment in Pawnee wasn't looking like an especially fascinating option, since April wasn't exactly a huge fan of watching paint dry; that conclusion had led to quite a bit of dispassionate Googling of other places that might be more interesting, and here she was.

At the bar, naturally. Because why not.

"Hey," she said, claiming a barstool and taking the place in. "Beer me?"

"Sure," Kitty said, getting her a beer and setting it in front of her. "Don't think I've seen you in here before."

"That'd be 'cause I'm new," April offered. "April."

Mmm, totally-not-legal-for-someone-of-her-age beer. Her favorite.

"Kitty. Welcome to town. I promise you get used to it," she said good-naturedly.

April shrugged. "Beats Pawnee so far," she offered.

Yes, because she was being served in a bar that wasn't called 'The Bulge.' Standards, April had them.

Another sip of her beer and then she glanced out in the direction of the front window, an idea beginning to form. "Hey, that sign out front," she began slowly. "You happen to know how someone would go about getting a job here?"

"Yep. You'd have to talk to me." Oooh, the power. "I'm the manager. Got any experience?"

Not that it would prevent her from getting a job, but Kitty tended to like knowing on which nights she might have to recheck her totals for the night or clean up broken glass or whatever.

"Sure," April said. Not entirely truthfully, no. "Tons."

To be fair, Kitty hadn't specified what kind of experience she was looking for. April had plenty of experience, say, standing around and doing nothing. Was that what Kitty was looking for?

Well, they employed Tino. So...

"We've got open shifts on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Do any of those work for you?" she asked.

"Saturdays sound good," April decided. ~~Because someone was going to have so much fun with the weird weekend shift. If by 'fun' you meant 'judging.'~~ "How are the tips?"

"Better with cleavage, but not bad without," Kitty said honestly. She was not much with the low-cut stuff in everyday life, no.

"Good to know." April was not opposed to cleavaging it up for tips. Or occasionally prize money at the Miss Pawnee beauty pageant. "Any other vital info?"

"That's Tino," Kitty said, jerking a thumb back at where he was dumping midori in something just for the color. "He's always here. Oh, and sometimes the drummer's arm falls off. If it does, you just need to get out the duct tape and make sure it's on good this time."

And that would be when April took her first good look over at the band.

Who were... zombies.

"Whoa."

That was weird. Fucking cool, yeah, 'cause who didn't love a good zombie band -- but weird.

"I'll... definitely make a note of that," she decided. Because April Ludgate Kept Her Cool.

"They don't attack or anything," Kitty assured her. "Mostly their parts fall off. The music's not bad either, as long as they don't try to sing."

There was a chance that April was a tiny bit weird, because the idea of singing zombies had her snickering. "They're okay," she assessed after a moment of considering what they were playing. "They're no Neutral Milk Hotel, but I can get behind it."

Indie-loving weirdo that she was.

"You guys have a lot of music-loving zombies around here?"

"Just them, as far as I know," Kitty said. "I wouldn't be shocked if there was an invasion of them at some point or another, though. Or a convention." She could totally see that happening.

April took that in.

"Huh."

Another sip of her beer.

"This place is kinda weird," she assessed.

"Yeah. Like I said, you get used to it. Oh, and we don't have to card here, either." Kitty shrugged. "Which helps with the weirdness-accepting."

"Oh, good," April said. "'Cause I'm nineteen."

Way to be upfront with your new employer, April. Way to go.

"There's not gonna be, like, random twelve-year-olds in here, are there?"

"So'm I," Kitty offered. "Random twelve-year-olds only show up when people's alternate universe children show up, I think. Oh, and that happens. Don't serve them if they're twelve. High school age, fine. Below that... kind of tacky."

...

"Yeah," April said after a brief pause while she mulled over the part about the alternate universe kids. "Totally."

She so wasn't in Pawnee anymore.

"This'll start to make sense at some point, right?"

Kitty nodded. "I was lost on all of this when I got here in November. And look at me now!"

Sigh.

"Managing a zombie bar," April said with an approving nod. "Definitely made a name for yourself."

Yeah, it was kind of an awesome job in her opinion. Hush.

Around, with some possibility for slowness as the aspirin is wearing off.
