The bar was still open tonight, but most of the activity would probably be in the back room where the party was set up. There bar itself had been made to look a little like a tiki hut with the top missing, there were little masks all around, there were leis and mai tais and rum punch (along with the regular stuff, but play along, guys) and even tiki torches around the room.

Kitty still had no idea why Tino had any of this.

And it sucked that that meant she'd had to actually put it all up herself. Sigh, Tino. Sigh.

Jaina hadn't been much in the partying mood lately for some weird reason, but she tended to at least try to get out and be social at least for a little while. So she could make an appearance, get a drink she wasn't going to finish, and wondered whether the torches would set off any fire alarms.

Priestly felt a little weird at showing up to an adults-only party -- he was still getting used to thinking of himself as an adult -- but that wasn't going to stop him from showing up and being social.

He was even wearing his best "Plant for the CIA" t-shirt for the occasion.

"What exactly is a tiki, anyway?"

"It's a South Pacific thing. People mostly use it to refer to the whole style of... this." Kitty waved an arm around. "You ever hear of like tiki idols and stuff?"

"Oh, yeah, totally," Priestly assured her. "It's a kitschy American staple. I'm just wondering if anyone knows what it actually, like, originally means. To the South Pacific islanders, you know?"

"It refers back to the creation of the first man and woman, in Maori culture," Kitty replied, and shrugged. "If I don't know something, I immediately have to look it up. It's like a sickness."

"I can get behind that sickness. Also, that makes the theme kind of way more awesome. Adults only birth of humankind party."

"With alcohol and leis," she added. "I have a feeling that part's not very authentic."

"But may potentially lead to propagation of the species." Well, probably not. "Or at least lots of bad jokes."

Derek was just going to give her a look. One that might have implied this mythical creature you called 'friends' didn't exist. It was like Santa Claus all over again, Kitty.

"Oh, come on, radio has you talking to everyone."

You know. Pinkie, Clint, Stiles, Eric...

HE HATES THEM ALL. HIS LIFE WAS PAAAAAAIN.

"Radio is run by squirrels." Who were just so lucky he didn't try to chase them up a tree. Because that would be silly.

Goddamn squirrels.

"Very cute ones, too," she nodded. "I'm just saying, one might almost start to think you have acquaintances."

Okay, maybe friends was a little far, she'd concede that.

Clint ~~was not at all late shhh~~ had never had the pleasure of attending a tiki party, but he supposed there was a first time for everything. He made his way to the back room and reminded himself again to not make any lei jokes, no matter how much he might want to.

"Hey," Kitty greeted him with a smile. "You don't look like you've gotten your lei yet."

It was right there, okay. Someone had to do it!

Clint laughed, very grateful that she'd said it so he didn't have to. "I don't suppose you could take care of that?"

"I can!" she said, going over to where the leis were to bring one back for him. "Not sure if this is the same spelling you're talking about, though..."

"Maybe not, but I wouldn't ask you to do the spelling I'm thinking of in front of a room full of people. Especially considering some of the people here." That shadowy corner wasn't fully hiding anyone, Derek.

"That spelling we can save for later," she told him, and that would be her trying to put the lei around his neck. "Gotta settle for this one for now."
