The Park, Parents' Weekend Field Day, Saturday All Day

Well, yesterday had been a big day full of catching up with loved ones, but today there were real activities planned! Although it had drizzled a bit the night before, by now the grass was dry and ready to be socialized on, almost as if Fandom knew that Student Council hadn't thought through a Plan B in case of rain and had decided to make things easier on them. The island was thoughtful that way. Now it was sunny and warm, and probably the best weather they'd had in a few weeks. You're welcome, parents.

Even if any of the guests had somehow been deliberately shielded from missed the signs about the field day in the park today, it was pretty easy to spot, what with all the brightly colored flags marking different stations, the big stage with a karaoke machine set up, the probably-larger-than-necessary buckets of station-specific equipment like balls and water balloons, and, of course, the picnic benches and food tables for anyone who just wanted to watch. Everything was perfect, assuming that whoever had commandeered the karaoke machine wasn't completely awful, so hopefully all the families would have a good time!

Nooo, it would not.

Take Topher, for instance: he showed up just to shove some food in his bag before taking his leave. Sure, it was possible he might get sidetracked first, but the food was his whole reason for attending.

For some reason that Scott didn't want to look closely into, Derek's little poofball dog would not leave him alone. The thing practically slept on his face last night, it was ridiculous.

So that would be why Scott had Puppy Joe tucked in the crook of his elbow while he perused the buffet table. He had to eat now before the full moon came up and he'd be presumably chained up somewhere for the night with nowhere to go.

As expected, no one had shown up for Jim. He'd maybe hoped his brother might randomly show or maybe even his mom but nope. He'd gotten over that false hope quickly and was now treating himself to some food and while he glanced around and made up stories about the various guests here.

Soon, he'd probably even participate in the activities out there. He was still thinking about that.

Now, Wheatley... wasn't really here for the food.

He was here because he hadn't managed to successfully roll anywhere besides 'under a table, out of Topher's way' yesterday.

There was condensation forming on his handles and a bird sitting on top of him. Sigh.

Okay, so Kaidan wasn't going to hide out in the house all weekend. Not that he didn't want to, being the fan (cough) of crowds that he was, but...

Well, it was always best not to give Joker too much ammunition.

Kate had people to find, but come on, even if she lived elsewhere these days, she was a Fandomite at heart. This meant she was taking advantage of the food tables first.

None of the activities were really made for middle-aged superheroes, so Lynda and Barry were mostly just waiting for their daughter to show up again.

He was complaining about the food selection and her reminders of what the doctor said he should eat, while she murmured, good-naturedly, "Remember your blood pressure, Barry."

It was still kind of surreal that Luke was hanging out with his dad in a normal capacity. Hermes wasn't great at acting like a father and Luke didn't think he ever would be, so they were trying for a friends thing at the moment. It seemed to be working for now, the two did have a lot in common.

Which would be why they ended up at the field day thing. Hermes couldn't resist watching sports and Luke enjoyed it as well, though his focus right now was on the free food more than people watching. He'd find his father again after he ate.

At some point yesterday, the Space Core had been removed from the bowl of nachos he had landed in. Did that mean he wasn't there today? Of course not.

Apparently someone at some point had decided he was meant to be some sort of bizarre centerpiece, because there he was, surrounded by plates of crackers and those tiny little cheese cubes, yelling to anyone who'd listen about how the Space Cops were arrest them. Because of their cheese choices, apparently.

Rhiannon had seemed like she needed some time apart, but that didn't mean Olive wasn't keeping an eye on her. And her parents. Olive needed like two more eyes, seriously. But she picked a vantage point, with coffee, where she could watch Rhiannon and also her mom, at least. They couldn't do too much damage as long as she didn't get distracted.

After dominating at the pie eating competition - whether or not there actually was any competition going on - Volstagg settled in by the food.

And he started to eat a lot of it. This probably shouldn't have been a huge surprise. He was built rather like a planet, after all.

Sia didn't really want to be here, as no guests got depressing and that was why she'd left early yesterday, but she had an extremely active puppy who needed to get out or he'd tear up her room.

He'd run all over on the way here (you didn't want to know how long the walk here took), and now he was sleeping under the seat of a picnic table where Sia was currently sitting. She was still not letting go of his leash.

Jack hadn't really planned on participating in the parents' weekend activities, as he wasn't really connected to the school anymore. But free food was free food. He managed not to claim quite all the sausage patties before retiring to a table to watch for anyone he recognized.

Lockheed was absolutely going after the food. Of course he was! Why wouldn't he? It was there, wasn't it? So don't mind the little purple dragon at the food table. He was friendly enough assuming you DIDN'T TRY TO TAKE ANY FOOD AWAY FROM HIM.

That part was important.

Once Rosemary had finished her lovely macaroni necklace, she'd passed it off to Olive (who was still standing a small distance away, but now wearing a macaroni necklace) and had gone to find herself something to eat.

And yes, she was still looking around to see if there were any of her daughter's friends here to look out for. Olive had been so deliberately vague about who she socialized with. It almost seemed intentional.

Every now and then, she'd get a text from Chip that made her wonder if she and Dill oughtn't go home early -- where do we keep the baking soda? no reason -- but she figured he'd probably be fine. He was just experimenting.

As Dill looked over the food, he had a look that suggested he was considering whether or not any given item might work as the name of a child.

Just kidding. Nobody could determine that some madman was trying to figure out if a child could be named Melonball just by looking at their face. At least, not unless they could read Dill's mind.

He eventually grabbed a cup of juice.

After a day spent moping that their mothers hadn't been able to come and see them, Sholeh's sisters had hit upon an excellent idea for today. Why didn't they take turns coming into view, pretending they were here for the weekend. Sholeh wasn't entirely convinced of the wisdom of this--after all, it would require a lot of running around, changing, and hoping no one noticed that there were only ever one of them at a time around, but she felt bad that her sisters barely ever got a chance to spend time in view as it was.

So, here they were, at the field day, taking turns watching the goings on and grazing over the food offerings.

Zeela had been looking forward to the games as soon as they'd spotted the posters on the way to the park. In between pretending to 'meet' people that Sholeh liked and running to participate in one of the events, Zeela could be found trying everything possible at the tables.

Sholeh had been a brat about hogging all the eating time. This stuff was delicious!

Unlike Zeela, who barely slowed down enough not to choke on whatever it was she was eating at the moment, Zhahar was a little nervous about being in view. Sholeh still didn't know about her adventure outside the night of the fire alarm, and she was a little wary about running into people who might recognize her.

But not wary enough to stay out of view. That would be absurd.

For example, if you're one of those parents who thinks it's unfair that you should be expected to do exercise when you're supposed to be traumatizing visiting your kid.

It was pretty unlikely that anyone was going to talk Lydia into actually participating in any of this. However, if this should happen to go the Beacon Hills way and it happened to involve boys playing sports with their shirts off, well, she wouldn't complain.

In the meantime, she was going to sit at a table and alternatingly text and watch the proceedings. Mostly in case of shirtlessness.

Stiles and physical activity did not mix very well, so he was definitely going to be on the spectator side of things today. Huge shock, right there.

He hoped Scott would bring back a ton of food because he was too lazy to get up and get food himself.

Not everything going on today was exercise: there was also a table with lots of craft supplies for the artistes of the island who might find themselves struck with enough nostalgia to want to make their parents a macaroni bracelet. Or a Build-A-Gremlin.
