It's not like it had never happened before. Sometimes Jaye would walk in to Caritas, find no one behind the bar, and then end up behind it because she wanted a drink and the Devil's Nest was all the way over there. She used to work at this place anyway, she was sure no one would mind if she just hung out and helped herself as she wanted.

And no, she didn't know why the zombies were playing porn music, but she really wanted Tino to stop looking at her like that.

What, she needs to get out there this week.

Fuck this shit. John squinted one eye closed before trying to sit down on the stool to make sure he wasn't going to miss and embarrass himself horribly.

He wasn't a bloody pirate, for fuckssake.

"Beer me, love."

"Sure, why not," she said, reaching her arm out to lightly feel around for a bottle rather than trying to grab and miss. "You're getting a bottle, by the way. Doing this with a glass and the tap is too much work when I'm not getting paid."

"Not just me with the clumsy-fingers, then," John said. "Can you feel your way to something nice and strong?"

Jono had been in a bit of a state today. It appeared to be one of those weeks. He could already tell. He was half-tempted to make plans to get off of the island for the duration, only he couldn't hit the damn buttons on the phone in order to call Portalocity.

So? Bar night. The at least somewhat familiar face wasn't unwelcome.

"Booze day today?"

Jono... did miss the seat, but caught himself with a hum and wound up floating mid-air before hitting the floor.

"I can see how that might be th'case."

"Pretty sure I could manage it with the right incentive," she said, not even thinking about the words coming out of her mouth.

"'M buyin' first round," John decided as his countryman sat down. "If only so I can make you buy the second."

"They don't put this in the bloody sales pitch. 'Come take care of our voodoo library,' 'fuck with the occasional demon bent on human domination,' not 'fall the fuck out of bed without being drunk first.'"

John lived and breathed innuendo every day anyway, so he didn't think twice about it either. "Incentive? That I can manage any day," he said, giving her a crooked grin. "I always make sure to leave my bartenders happy; it's best for everyone involved."

Jaye passed over his drink and leaned forward on the bar. "You know, I don't actually work here. Anymore. So I'm pretty much doing this all for tips."

She wasn't even sure what that meant, exactly, but it sounded wrong.

"Might take me a few tries to actually get to my wallet," Jono noted, looking faintly annoyed, "but that works for me."

Really, so long as there was alcohol involved, it wasn't exactly a difficult sell, today.

"At least this sort of thing generally only lasts a day or so. Not so much with th'pollen that's about, mind. I haven't seen that last less than a week."

"So you let yourself in to steal the booze and stay to work?" Color John amused. "You Americans are insane, every single one, aren't you?"

"Pretty sure if you can't reach around for it, our lovely barmaid can help you out," John quipped. "She's working for tips tonight."

"But I have no idea what you're talking about with 'th'pollen.'"

"Yeah, but we're fun," Jaye smiled. "And, free booze."

Which always led to good decisions!

Jaye better hand him a beer. "You."

"New Dean! You've stuck around," Jaye said, totally innocently.

It led to GREAT decisions, especially around John!

"That you are, sunshine," he agreed, picking up his drink to toast her. "A lovely vision of cheer, impulsiveness, and even better, serving drinks."

"Hard not to," Dean muttered, scanning the bar before settling on the band. "That's just nasty."

"You haven't even seen impulsive." Seriously, she had a seven-year history of arrests and stupid behavior, none of which was actually her fault, but whatever.

Also he was like the first person ever to associate her with cheer, but she didn't really feel like arguing that right now?

"How can you say such a thing when they won't stop serenading the bar with lovely porno music?" Jaye asked.

"Yeah, nothing says a fun night like necrophilia," Dean shot back.

"No one's going to have sex with the zombies, they're going to have sex because of the zombies," Jaye said. "There's a huge difference."

"Yeah?" Oh Jaye, don't say that around the man with the history of impulse-control problems. "And what sort of trouble do you get up to when not breaking into bars and talking up strange men?"
