PROM! Community Center, Friday Evening [Part 1]

The collective wisdom of the Student Council this week pretty much boiled down to "body glitter is AMAZING", and that somehow translated to a space theme for prom. The ceiling was covered in twinkling lights, and there were glitter-drenched foam planets, moons and asteroids hanging in corners and above the dance floor and buffet.

There was glitter everywhere, of course, because "excellent focus" wasn't really a hallmark of anyone this week and vials of the stuff kept getting knocked over. There was also containers of body glitter on the tables for those who might not be sparkly enough yet and some slightly questionable artwork of scantily clad aliens with gravity-defying body parts to take pictures next to because teenagers under the effects of sex pollen made the best decorating choices.

The food trended toward the chocolate-covered and supposedly aphrodisiac (with plenty of edible glitter added in, of course) and the punch was unspiked for the moment.

The lights were down low, there were plenty of dark corners, the music was a little Marvin Gaye-heavy and the chaperones, frankly, had their work cut out for them tonight.

Welcome to Prom Night 2013! Try to behave yourselves.

Victor laughed. "Not literally," he said. "It's just kind of ... y'know, a tradition. People hook up with their prom dates. If they don't have a date, they find somebody else to hook up with. That's not a thing in New York?"

"I didn't go to a normal high school before I came here," Alec pointed out. "The traditions are all a little new. But... people expect it, you think?"

Yes, he'd been a little.... unintentionally suggestive to Sparkle about after-prom plans, but he was just making sure.

"And. Do you and Olive, uh, want the room later?"

"I always forget you grew up in a cave," Victor said, but lightly: He wasn't going to be mean enough to make Alec rethink his offer. "But yeah, nobody's going to be shocked if you suggest it, except maybe Rilla. And -- have we ever not wanted the room?"

That ... might have been more information than Alec needed.

Okay, well, that was reassuring. "I'll make other arrangements, then," Alec said wryly, aware that it probably wasn't a total mystery what the other arrangements were likely to be. "Not with Rilla."

"I figured," Victor said, equally wry. "Funny as it would be to see her face if somebody suggested it. Have fun, be safe, see you when we're both done with our ... other arrangements."

"Same to you." Wow, this week was really loosening Alec up. Not in the dirty way. Yet. "Enjoy tonight."

Seriously, this was the most stereotypically teenage-boy-ish conversation Alec had ever been a part of. It was very weird.

So, naturally, he added, "And try to avoid the glitter showers."
