Caritas- Tuesday

While Kitty had been in Italy, there'd been a few shipments of new things to come in, which she knew about. What she hadn't known about was the poster Tino had helpfully put up of the more, um, exotic beers they offered. Some of those were new to her, but hey, it was helpful, and now Tino was trying to try them all in one shift.

After futilely trying to talk him out of it, Kitty decided she'd have more fun going up and back over whether or not to go on a certain proposed New Orleans trip.

SPECIALS
ANYTHING ON THE POSTER

Mike looked over the chart, not sure what to make of it. Well, if today's special was microbrews, then today's special was microbrews.

"Have you tried any of these?" he asked Kitty dubiously. "Some of the names don't exactly inspire confidence."

Mike raised his eyebrows at that. "Still not inspiring confidence. If 'holding up pretty well' is the best you can say, then we've got a problem." He sighed and turned to Tino. "You got any recommendations, over there?"

Mike took a sip and looked disappointed, but he kept drinking it anyway. "Right. The Italy trip. So, tell me, does the entire town often go on joint vacations like that? It's a bit unusual, in my experience."

Mike snorted and shook his head in disappointment at himself. "You know, here I was, this whole week, thinking that it's some quaint local custom, and it turns out to just be a field trip. Well, isn't that something?" He gave Kitty a shrug. "That must be some kinda prep school you got there."

Mike saluted her with his beer. "Thanks. I thought I was just passing through, but it turns out I'm not. You're looking at the new owner of the grocery store."

"Mike." He saluted her with his beer again. "Pleased to meet you." He set his beer down and gave her a long, hard, critical look. "Now, this is just the advice of an old man, and you don't have to take it, but you may want to reconsider 'Catherine'. In my experience, the ones who stick with 'Kitty' don't always end up so well."

Mike shrugged. "Junkies, prostitutes, the 'other woman' in a messy divorce... I'll tell you this: I don't think I've ever seen a 'Kitty' in a suit."

He frowned. "And now I'm thinking of this 'Lydia' that I know. I tell you what -- a suit's not so great after all. Don't listen to me -- it's your name, after all."

"'Pretty much'?" Mike challenged.

"A loooong time ago," Mike acknowledged. "Another lifetime. So it goes." He took a long swig of his beer.

Mike sighed and shook his head no. "Look, kid, I applaud the sentiment. Not enough people these days give cops the respect they deserve. But I'm not the guy you want to give that free drink to. Like I said, it was a long time ago."
