Community Center, Sunday Afternoon

The mayor had ordered anyone who liked party planning to the community center to, well, plan a party.

Just to make that point clear, she'd also pasted a giant sheet of paper on the front door, with the specific text from Special Collections photocopied up top, and a message underneath:

WE NEED TO WARD THIS STUFF OFF WITH A PARTY
A KID'S CHRISTMAS PARTY
MAKE IT GOOD
(DON'T SKIMP ON THE BOOZE)

Frank showed up with a drink that was stronger than any nightmare visions he may have had. He also had a broken bottle in his other hand because he was forced to smash it over a monster's head before it was even empty. So he was more than happy to declare vengeance on this whole thing through whatever means he could, preferably without taking a break from drinking. And guess what! Party planning allowed for that.

Maybe it was because she was written for a kids' show. Maybe she was just that impervious to angst. Whatever the reason, Pinkie seemed to be entirely unaffected by the goings-on, skipping lightly past the monsters in the streets and occasionally fighting one off with her party cannon (only occasionally, she needed to save her ammo for the party, after all), and making her way into the community center with a veritable (and literal) explosion of confetti and cheer.

This was her JAM. Her literal reason for being. Parties were in Pinkie's very soul.

"LET'S GET THIS PARTY-PLANNING-PARTY STARTED!"

Hannibal might have been a slight touch more grumpy than usual, given all the visions, but that was far eclipsed by the fact that at last they could fight an invasion with something that played to his strengths.

He showed up and beelined for the kitchen. He had to see what he had to work with, here.

Didi hadn't been too bothered by the catastrophe this time, and she was counting herself lucky. She showed up with an enormous bag of Christmas lights and an even more enormous bag of garland.

"Do we have anybody to play Santa?" she wondered. "Kids like Santa, right?"

Really now. Pinkie had been in Fandom for almost five years. You'd think she'd've picked up more about human customs.

Raven had heard from Jono that Didi was back on the island, but still, it was a shock to see her in person.

"Lady Death," she said as she made a polite curtsy, unsure if she should be addressing her as Didi or as Death. "I had heard that you have returned to Fandom. It is nice to see you again."

This was the weirdest request to solve a problem ever. But Kitty was here and ready to plan, because it at least kept her from fighting monsters for a while.

Cosette looked tired but determined, and whatever dreams were responsible for the dark circles under her eyes didn't appear to have done anything to dim her spirits.

She might never have actually planned a party before, but did you think that was going to stop her from trying to help with one now? No. No, it was not.

Alex had remained relatively unaffected by the events of the past few days, which she was counting as a good thing. Party planning was definitely something she could help with.

Feeling much more centered after her encounter with her brothers -- or what seemed to be them -- Raven came to the Community Center after hearing the announcement. She had her Glacian charges with her, both to keep them close and because upon hearing the announcement that children could somehow be helpful to this, there was no way they were going to stay cooped up in the hotel.

Her shields were still not as good as they should have been, and it was hard to ignore what was happening all around them on the island. But making people happy was something Raven loved to do, and she was going to give it everything she had.

Tamsin was up on the stage, still holding her megaphone.

"WE NEED TO PLAN A PARTY--"

She lowered the megaphone.

"We need to plan a party. Do your thing. Find some brats. Something. I'm going to go kill anything that gets near that door."

She hopped off the stage.

She'd mention wine specifically, but again, written for a kids' show.

"Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaank yooooooooooooooou," Pinkie called after Tamsin as she headed for the door. "OKAY. I made a list!" She unfurled a parchment maybe a dozen yards long. When did she have time to make this list? Who knew? It was entirely likely she just had it on hand just in case Fandom needed a holiday party. "We need carols and candy canes and gingerbread houses and geraniums and sparkly lights and special banners and lots and lots of delicious foods and what sorts of party games to humans play this time of year? Pin the tail on the pony is always super popular back home but we could bob for ornaments, maybe! Or play blind-pony's-bluff or 'Yes and No' but that one's always best when there's a crotchety old grump who needs to learn the true meaning of Christmas hanging around but most important there should be DANCING, yes, let's make sure there's good music for that as well as the nice kinda spooky melancholy carols in minor keys that make people feel all warm and snug inside. . . ."

Yeah, this was going to go on for awhile.

"I can handle the food, though some help would be welcome," Hannibal said, breaking into the list. He hated to interrupt, but as most of them couldn't simply pull decorations and food out of nothing, they needed some time to work on it. "And likely the music, unless someone else prefers to volunteer."

Punchbowl with nog? Check. A fleet of bottles? Check. An army of cups? Also check. An empty punch bowl just in case people wanted to appease the children by giving them something to drink without alcohol? Check. Frank was done and was enjoying the bourbon if his labor.

He would have had the fruits of his labor, but this wasn't a wine party.

Pinkie peered down the barrel of her party cannon, then pulled out her rammer (you do NOT want to know where she keeps that) and used it to finish shoving the party cartridge home.

"Clear the field!" she called, and set the fuse, sending red, green, and white decorations flying into perfectly arranged position around the room. Balloons danced in the corners of the ceiling and evergreen garlands draped themselves neatly on all the tables and along the walls and drifts of confetti rained slowly down from the ceiling.

"Efficient," Didi noted approvingly, and set to adding colored lights along every surface that would hold them. There was no such thing as too much Christmas, was there?
