Caritas- Tuesday

It was Kitty's birthday! And she had to work! Which sucked because she'd much rather spend it at home, but it wasn't all bad. The zombies had already played "Happy Birthday" and she was using people's calls and texts to her to harass them into giving her their address so she could send their wedding invitations.

23 wasn't a big one anyway.

Éponine came in with a giant tin of shortbread cookies, which she set on the bar counter with a solemn expression.

"I'd a suspicion I ought to give you these today."

The smile sort of ruined the solemn expression, but then the giant shiny bow on top of the tin had probably undermined it to begin with.

"Awww," Kitty smiled. "You didn't have to do that."

She'd happily take them though..

"It's your birthday and I remembered, I did, so you ought to have something for it," Éponine said, nodding decisively. "'specially since you've got to spend it working."

"Thanks," she said again. "Though the working isn't too bad. Being in a bar I can feel like I went out."

Not that she really went out anyway, but that was beside the point.

"And it isn't as if you've got to pay for your drinks, is it, seeing as it's your bar?" asked Éponine, once she'd climbed up onto a bar stool and started swiveling lazily back and forth. "Still, it ought to be a day for you to do what you want, not what other people want, but that's what Tino's for, isn't it? Well, I won't make you do anything. Don't worry about that."

"I can totally get you a drink," Kitty told her. "It's not exactly hard labor."

"Only so long's you don't mind," Éponine said after a moment of weighing whether she should actually say that. "I can get it myself, otherwise."

That's not how it works, Éponine.

It was cold outside, so when Clint came in he was wearing a coat, but as soon as he was safely at the bar, he ditched the coat and set it on one of the stools, leaving himself in a sleeveless shirt and jeans. It was a small part of a birthday present, but he figured it still counted as something. "Hey birthday girl, how's your night going?" he asked as he sat down.

"It's an easy night, I'm getting somewhere on planning stuff, and my fiancé is dressed inappropriately for the season, so my night's great," Kitty grinned, leaning through the bar to give him a kiss.

Clint laughed and kissed her back. "I know what I'm good for," he said, flexing a little. "Do you need anything heavy lifted? Or I could make you a drink instead of the other way around."

"You want to just stand here and pose for a while?" Kitty asked, getting her camera out.

"It depends on where those pictures are going to go," Clint said, even as he stood with his hands on his hips, showing off his arms.

"Are we doing a wedding slideshow? It can go in that." She was totally taking a picture either way.

"I wasn't sure you were going to be here," Allie said as she placed a small stack of boxes (http://shop.cacaolorenzo.com/chateau-chocolat.aspx) on the bar. "You should be out celebrating."

"Honestly, I am boring and this sort of counts as celebrating," Kitty decided, peering at the boxes. "What do we have here?"

"They claim it's some of the better chocolate to be found in Baltimore. You'll have to tell me if that's true."

Allie had been tempted to try some, but hadn't been in the mood to deal with the consequences.

"You are amazing, and thank you, and you didn't have to do that," Kitty said. She was totally going to have to put in extra time at the gym but it was gonna be worth it.

"It's what friends do. I've been here long enough to learn that," she shrugged. "Besides, someone needs to appreciate the good stuff."
