Groovy Tunes, Sunday

Jono really didn't want to go in to work while Angela was visiting for the weekend. Especially not a younger Angela than he and Hannibal were used to being visited by. But he also couldn't ignore the fact that his attendance lately had been... not so great. And there were still orders that needed to be placed and shipments that he'd been seriously behind in unpacking. So he'd left Hannibal and Angela at home with the promise that they could both visit him at work later, and he'd made his way off to the music shop.

They'd gotten some new guitars in today, and he was taking great pleasure in just sitting around and playing each one, making sure they were in tune before putting them up on the wall.

He was working. Working. Not playing. Honest.

[OOC: OCD-free, but that's because I'm lazy. Open!]

After breakfast and approximately two thousand questions about everything from the glittery flamingos to Hannibal's choice of jacket, Hannibal and Angela did arrive.

Hannibal grinned at Jono. "Hard at work, I see."

"Hi, Daddy!" Angela ran over and all but dove to sit at Jono's feet and listen.

"Pearl Jam!" Angela said, bouncing.

She definitely got that from him. Hannibal's look said as much.

"If you say so," Hannibal said. His expression was long-suffering, but there was a glint in his eyes, and he walked over to stroke Angela's hair and listen.

Sometime later in the afternoon, a young man came into the store, looking around hopefully.

"Mr. Starsmore?" he called out, checking out one of the CD displays. "You around?"

"You probably don't remember me-- or, well, recognize me," Spike said self-deprecatingly. "I was here last year, on the Island, but I was about eleven? I had dinner at Dr. Lector's place with your family, along with my sisters?" He held out his hand. "Spike de la Vega. I've got a small favor to ask."

"Hey," Spike said, pleased that Jonothan remembered him. "Uhh, I'm learning bass guitar, and Eliot's only got one standard guitar for us to share, and there's four of us at his place this weekend." He grinned, dimples showing. "Is there any chance that I can borrow a bass until tomorrow? I promise not to jump into a portal with it, Eliot would kick my ass if I did."

Totally fair. "Really? I would so owe you, although, you wouldn't be able to collect for a few years." He headed down to the end of the counter, examining some of the bass guitars by sight, then reaching out to test the strings on one that looked nice and mellow. "Any recommendations?"

"Thanks," Spike said, smile widening. He carefully lifted it from the wall, and put the strap over his shoulders, doing a quick run of chords. "Ooo. Nice." Thump, thump, and then a good driving beat. He wasn't anywhere near expert with the bass yet, but he had the basic hang of it. "I think you're right, this one will work great, especially with Riley playing guitar."

"Cool!" That would be fun, and maybe drag Eliot into it too. "I'll tell her, see if she's up for it. And, yeah." He handed over the guitar, rubbing the back of his neck. "I appreciate it." He did have the money to rent it, but not *that* much.

"Deal," Spike said, holding out his hand. "And a copy of my first CD, when that happens."

When, definitely when! Although it would probably be some horrible internet label, before they got in some practice. And a better band name.
