Around town- Saturday morning

As people in Fandom woke up, they might notice it looked slightly overcast. If they looked up, they'd see a large and imposing spaceship looming over the island.

Some people might be getting something like deja vu.

The ship had been brought by the Brood, who had come by the ship naturally. If by "naturally" you meant that they'd killed or overtaken the crew of the ship and were now using it. They'd come in search of one specific person and found an entire planet full of bodies they could use. Just wait until they figured out how many people in this one location had powers!

The Brood took to the island, not worrying about hiding. The Queens and their sleazoid troops wandered the streets to find anyone unlucky enough to be out, ready and willing to increase their numbers. Who didn't want to come across giant insectoids with terrifying venomous teeth and tentacles for stabbing?

There wasn't really any hiding from the Brood. They found ways to find you if they really wanted to.

Fred was on his way back from getting some breakfast. The coffee was just waking up his system, so it was just dawning on him that the overcast sky was actually a spaceship. That wasn't necessarily weird. Maybe that was a thing that happened. Then he turned a corner and saw an alien monster. And it was looking right at him.

In a moment of panic, Fred couldn't remember where his exploding boomerang was. A regular boomerang bounced off its head as he started backpedaling. A bladed boomerang stuck in its... snout? Whatever the hell. The third try was the charm as he tossed the exploding boomerang into the Brood's mouth when it was WAY TOO CLOSE.

The past four months, he had worn his supervillain boots every single day just in case one of the weird things people warned him about actually happened. And now that he was covered in exploded alien debris - and was probably going to attract more unexploded aliens because of the explosion - that decision paid off!

With a click of the heels, Fred shot off into the air, his jetboots propelling him toward the hotel. He was going to need SO MANY MORE BOOMERANGS if he was going to get through this! Fortunately, he had a terrifying number hidden away. Way more of them were exploding than he was going to admit to anyone in a position of authority, too.

Anakin had a baaad feeling about this as he arrived on the island and glanced up.

Call it an excess of caution, but he had his comlink out and in his hand in a blink. "Jaina? You wouldn't happen to be extremely busy at the moment?"

There was an alien spaceship floating above town, but as far as Pinkie could tell, it hadn't abducted anyone yet. So she was willing to give it the benefit of the doubt.

And sure, the creatures that probably came from the spaceship were super creepy looking with far too many legs (as opposed to humans, who were slightly creepy looking with their too few legs). But a central tenet of friendship was not to judge other people just by how they look. So Pinkie trotted on up to the first one she saw and stuck out a friendly hoof.

"Hiya!" she said. "I'm Pinkie Pie! What's your name?"

The Queen tilted her head a little. She'd seen (and brutally murdered) a lot of different species, but this was a new one.

"The Queen."

Brood were not big on individual names.

Ada had gone to JGoB fairly early in the morning, summoned by the lure of donuts fresh out of the oven. She was even being nice, and bringing a box back to the dorms to share with Cosima.

Except something didn't feel right, something wasn't right, and Ada paused. It looked overcast, but it didn't feel like it was going to rain. At all. She didn't have a headache, and her bones didn't hurt. She couldn't taste a single drop of moisture in clouds, so why was the light wrong?

So she looked up. And up. And started swearing when she realized that's no cloud.

She had to get out of here. She was only two blocks from the Trooper Station -- way closer than the dorms -- and it was probably open. Clutching the donut box to her chest, Ada took off through the park, opting for the direct route.

Some days, Ada really wished she had useful powers, instead of being a mermaid.

She caught the eye of a Queen, who took off after her with relative ease.

"Where are you running to, little girl?" she asked, almost mocking.

Eliot opened his front door to see a raging alien insect beast thing standing on his stoop. It flailed its tentacles menacingly.

Eliot smiled.

"You have no idea how much I need this today."

He drove the thing back off his stoop with some well placed kicks, then darted back inside to grab his sword, which he'd taken to keeping in an umbrella stand in the front hall.

The alien screeched at him when he came back out. He screamed back and took its stabbing tentacle off with a single swing.

Oh yeah. This was exactly what he needed.

Kitty had noticed the weird darkness, and being her, phased outside to see what was causing it. And when she saw the ship, well...

She started through the town, not sure exactly what she was looking for, but she heard a scream and turned to towards the sounds... and there was a Brood Queen.

"God dammit," Kitty sighed, not feeling so great about this.

Jessica and a pair of troopers made their way through the town with Jessica scouting from the rooftops and the troopers responding from the ground. "Up ahead, 10 o'clock!" she ordered. The troopers rushed ahead and blasted a sleazoid before it had time to react. Working like a well-oiled machi-"Yikes!"

Jessica just barely dodged a sleazoid that had dashed out from behind her. She ducked, grabbed its tentacles, and flipped forward to cannonball to the street with the Brood below her. As soon as they impacted, Jessica rolled off and yelled, "Fire!" The troopers finished it from there.

"Good work. But there's a lot more to do," Jessica said, picking herself up off the ground.

Anders didn't know what the alien spaceship was, but it didn't look friendly. He shuddered and was glad he had his staff with him. (He might not have particularly cared whether lived or died at the moment, but he still didn't want anyone else to get hurt.)

His sense something was wrong paid off when he rounded a corner in town and found himself facing several many-legged creatures.

"Oh good," he said pleasantly, swinging his staff around to hold it pointed at the cluster. "Visitors."

The Queen made a gesture, and two of the sleazoids moved towards Anders, not looking very impressed with him or the staff. But that wouldn't stop one from trying to grab at him with a tentacle.

Gwen had gotten all the way out of the dorms and started into town before she noticed the spaceship, because she was busy texting MJ on her phone. When she looked up, having heard some about the last time there'd been an alien thing here, she'd started to turn tail and walk quickly back to the dorms, only to see one of the aliens standing in her way.

Bo thought she was doing a pretty decent job for having never tried to take out a giant saliva-dripping, scorpion-style bug thing before. Probably. Had she? There'd been mechanical spiders and mutated Alots and oh right, she'd been a saliva-dripping kinda scorpion style bug thing at one point, so maybe that gave her an advantage when she was swinging a battle-axe at this one? At least enough that she managed to duck its left stabby front pincer thing while getting in a good chop at the right one.

Nooot so much that she managed to duck the stabby front stabbywhateverthatwas of the Brood Queen behind her. Overconfidence'll get you every time, Bo-Beth-Dennis-boobwasatypo-Jones. "Seriously?"

Was what she tried to say, but it mostly came out gluuucchhk as the tentacle penetrated between her ribs and down into areas that were supposed to be reserved for coffee, doughnuts and deluxe Hawaiian pizzas. The force of the stab shoved her forward right into the face of the monster in front of her, and despite the horrible breath, that stab through the gut hurt like hell and that hideous face was right. there, so... In conclusion, today was the day one succubus stopped ever looking sheepish about having a half-troll alternate future kid, one Brood sleazoid dropped to the ground forever with a really disturbing smile on its already disturbing mouth, and one Brood queen would've rolled her eyes at the human-shaped woman thinking she'd come out of this the winner, if she wasn't already snatching back her tentacle and bounding off in search of someone else to infect.

It would also be the night that Turtle & Canary sold out of both Scope and Pepto-Bismol for the first time in years, but that would come later. Right now Bo, feeling much better thank you, except for a little rumbling in her stomach, was going to find herself another monster to hack at. There didn't seem to be any shortage of the things.

Skaar's healing factor worked better the stronger he was. And the angrier he was, the stronger he was. That meant his ability to heal with doing a good job holding the embryo at bay right now, because having that thing in him pissed him off SO BAD.

And that's why he was finding Brood and smashing their heads in. And for the ones he didn't, he was stabbing them in the face. He was not going down easily. Which was exactly the reason the Brood seemed to want him.

Momoko exited the portal with a happy skip, slightly tugging Jaime's hand. She'd had to work on his birthday and he'd been at study groups most of her off hours since AND he had some clinical thingie next week, so Momoko had been determined she was not going to share him this weekend with books and teeth. Nope! She'd tossed his book bag in a closet and shoved him back into his room to pack as soon as they'd finished breakfast, declaring that she'd made reservations for them to stay at Fandom for the weekend.

"Only one layover and it was just in Chicago! Totally not a bad deal, right?" She grinned back at him.

"How come I never get any say in these little trips?" Jaime asked, glancing over at Momoko with a grin. "I mean, what if I had an important quiz to study for?" He totally didn't.

"It would be on the schedule on your bulletin board," Momoko snorted, just as her phone gave a jingle. She reached for it. "Ah. A text?"

Raven had come to the island with Karla to show off the new baby, but the appearance of the space ship overhead along with the accompanying stab of anxiety she picked up from the rest of Fandom had her regretting that decision. Leaving Karina with Karla, Kayla, and Nommy at the hotel, she ventured out to see what was going on. If necessary, she was going to teleport Karla and the children all right back to Glacia whether they wanted it or not.

Her first sight of the Brood had her thinking that was going to be the best choice.

Oh, please, portal girl totally needs to be infected, if only so she has a reason not to teleport the hell out of there. But she'll bamf a few Brood out of there first, if that works? :)
