The Beach, Friday Evening

A new Friday, a new change of scenery. Tamsin had hoped for somewhere else that stocked booze, but thankfully, she'd had the foresight of getting a whole bunch of it from the Restaurant before they moved this morning.

It was Friday evening, and Mobius's sun hung low in the sky, but it was warm, and there were birds chirping as they flew past Fandom's dome. Perfect atmosphere or whatever. There were large, glittery umbrellas dotting the sand for effect, a bunch of chairs and tables arranged just a few feet away from the sandy parts of the beach, and a few grills were cooking away meat and veggies for the incoming guests.

Fandom beach party. This would definitely end well.

Come on, alums, townies, teachers, and whatever students think it's cool to mix with that kind of folk. It's a nice evening. Enjoy it.

There's a ton of ~~moddable~~ food on the grill, including vegetarian options, and a small salad bar. Grab a plastic plate and some cutlery and get yourself something to eat. Or pick up some booze; it's there too.

Sit down on the sand with your feet and enjoy your view of the water. Play volleyball, if that's more your style. Or go swimming. You can't go far, courtesy of that dome, but there's still plenty of room.

Or stay away from the water and settle in at a table.

Tamsin's enjoying a beer and... steak.

A lot of steak.

While Kanan hadn't had the opportunity to party, exactly, in quite some time, he was all for the idea of getting out and meeting new people. And eating the free food. Kanan was completely on board for free food.

Yes, he still had his blaster on him. There was no way in hell he was leaving his apartment without it when he didn't have to. But hopefully the shirtless look would draw attention away from that?

It was a compromise.

Obi-Wan could never quite resist large gatherings, if simply because so much of the rest of his life was spent in seclusion.

He was not there to mingle overtly much, however. He simply took off his cloak and sat down on the fringes, watching. Feeling the energy in the Force.

Dante was still pissed off about yesterday - maybe dealing with all the shit Cassandra had said, too. So he went to the party, adults be damned, and went straight for the booze.

Then he picked up a ridiculous amount of meat and settled in somewhere.

Salad was good. Kanan had eaten a lot of salad last week. And burgers? He was getting a pretty good idea of what Earth's idea of a burger was, and those weren't half bad, either. So he split the difference, grabbing a cheeseburger and loading it up with whatever looked like it might go well on a cheeseburger, and filling the rest of his plate up with a little bit of everything else. Less because he was hungry (even if he was), and more because he wanted to familiarize himself with as much of this stuff as he possibly could.

... Also, booze. He was grabbing himself a bottle of some manner of beer while he was there, too.

When 'how should Jono spend his Friday' came into question this morning, he had found himself with a bit of a dilemma. Should he head to his office at the school and pretend to be busy there? Go to do some paperwork over the the Groovy Tunes or scope out the Boards to see the state of the renovations, which, however minor, were in no way going to be done in time for the wedding anyway?

Oooor should he head to the beach for some kind of get-together?

A few years ago, that last one wouldn't have even been on the bloody list. But here he was, and he'd brought one of his acoustic guitars with him. Because what better way to pretend to be social, really, than to bury all of his attention into making music that people were welcome to listen to if they cared at all?

Anyway, it was something to do for the guy who wasn't going to eat or go swimming. Bonus.

Guitar in hand, Jono staked out a spot on the beach that was sort of away to the side of whatever was going on in the water or by the grills. It wasn't that he was being antisocial, necessarily. It was just that he was far less likely to get sand kicked on him if he had some distance from any potential volleyball games.

Honest.

Anyway, he was quite content to just sit there and play whatever he felt like playing and leave all of the 'beach fun' to everybody else. If that meant he was mostly playing acoustic reinterpretations of early 90s grunge... well...

Look, he'd take requests. But he wasn't going to sing.

Had someone asked her, Lucille would have claimed that beach parties were not a thing she particularly enjoyed. She did enjoy the evening sun and the view though, and the food smelled nice.

Her long skirt trailed across the sand as she approached the umbrellas and the tables.

"So..."

Hey, Obi-Wan. You weren't too invested in being alone there on the fringes, were you? Because Kanan was making his way over (with no shirt and a plate of food), to ever so casually instigate a conversation. You were one of the handful of people he actually knew on this island.

And the only one he knew he could be open with about certain things, for that matter.

"... teaching. Actually nothing like I pictured it would be."

The food looked tasty enough, and Lucille had a plate full of vegetables and meat, which she balanced with a glass of wine in her other hand. These modern plastic plates were not very stable.

The music was unfamiliar, and perhaps not quite to her taste, but Lucille enjoyed that someone played an instrument rather than relying on recorded music.

"Good evening," she greeted Mr Starmore. "Please, don't let me interrupt." She looked around and found a spot nearby to sit down.

[SPish for a while]

//Evening, Lucille,// Jono replied, giving a warm little nod and finishing his rendition of Layla before tilting his head in consideration and starting to play something a little (a lot) more sedate. //How're you tonight? Enjoying the party?//

If Obi-Wan was at all surprised to have the company, he did a fine job of failing to show it. "No," he said, "It rarely is. Least of all at this school."

He looked up at Kanan. "But you've made it through alive so far. I'm impressed."

A drink or two and some food later, Dante was in better spirits.

He stripped out of his shirt - never did get to do the shirtless thing here yet - and wandered along the beach.

Maybe find something to do.

"Well, for the most part, there really hasn't been anything out to kill me," Kanan replied, smiling a wry smile. He wasn't sitting down or anything yet, content to stand there and eat while he wasn't talking, but he was at least close enough to have a comfortable conversation without hollering across the beach or whatever. "Why? Do the teachers here have a high mortality rate that nobody warned me about?"

"No," Obi-Wan said, "But I've seen my fair share departing us in other ways."

He tilted his head at Dume - he couldn't quite think of the boy as Kanan or Jarrus. "I suppose I'm trying to say that you've made it three weeks without being vexed to the point of fleeing."

Hey, just so long as how he thought of him wasn't how he spoke of him, Kanan wouldn't mind. It was difficult to not address Obi-Wan as Master, as it stood.

"Well, aside from the fact that I wouldn't know how to make it back to Gorse from here if I wanted to..." Kanan gave a soft huff of a laugh. "It's been peaceful here. Mostly. And the detours that the island has been taking haven't been half bad, either."

He'd been tempted to just stay behind on Illium. It was far more his speed than the island itself was, and he was fairly sure there were no Imperials there hunting for Jedi stragglers. But he didn't know the first thing about the galaxy from there, and that wasn't the sort of choice he could make in a week, so he'd just made a note of it.

"It has been an... interesting few weeks."

It was funny how many different flavors you could fit into a word like 'interesting'. Crazy. Fascinating. Odd. Well, that's something that happened.

"I'm curious as to where we've found ourselves this time," Obi-Wan added, looking past Dume at the dome and beyond. "It's very... rustic."

He might officially be a desert hermit now, alternating between Tatooine and this strange island, but at heart, Obi-Wan was a city brat.

You and Kanan both, Obi-Wan. You and Kanan both.

"That's one word for it," Kanan mused, following that line of sight for a moment. "It's been a while since I've been on a planet with that many trees. Can't help but wonder what kind of civilization there is out there. I might even go exploring before the island takes off again."

Lucille wrapped her shawl tighter around herself. "It's a beautiful evening," she replied, dodging the question. She fell silent, listening to the song.
