The Boards, Thursday Evening

Jono had had big plans for tonight at the Boards, but the events of the last few weeks had thrown something of a wrench in the gears when it came to organizing the showcase he'd wanted to hold.

... Or even finding people to perform in it. Which meant that he was going to have to adjust his plans somewhat.

A lot.

There was a new sign up where the old one had been.

When all else failed, bribe people to participate. And if anybody needed Jono, he'd be on the stage playing his guitar for the duration of the evening or until somebody else showed up who wanted to perform. Whichever came first.

"Which -- that one?" Eliot frowned, then looked around. Dante was here, but none of the other kids who'd been to Kathy's world with them. And Dante was Dante.

Besides, it wasn't like it directly referenced zombies or anything. . . .

"Yeah." Eliot chuckled. "Alright. Find me a guitar and I'll sing that one."

"Eee!" ONe kiss for Eliot, real fast, and Parker was hopping off to find him a guitar.

Eliot always tried to follow those kisses, even when they were lingering, leaning after her well after she'd already pulled away and vanished.

Then he straightened and realized what he'd just agreed to, and all the anxious stage fright he got before singing in front of anyone but her and Hardison came rushing back in.

What in the name of hell had he gotten himself into now.

"I got you the best one. Jono said so." Here, Eliot. Have a Taylor. A really nice one. "It's all shiny and stuff."

"It is." Eliot hadn't been lying about not having favorites, so the only thing he could tell about this thing was that it was fancy as all get out. One of those top rack guitars his teenage self had only ever managed to stare dreamily at before hitting up the pawnshop for something cheap. "I'm almost afraid to tune it."

Sure. Being afraid was why he was half petting the damn thing. . . .

Parker watched him with the guitar, and tried hard to hide a grin. "You could try her out. Just a little. To see if it's one you want to play. I can get you a different one if you don't like the sound?"

"Well, I gotta warm it up, first," Eliot said, and gave it an experimental strum.

Oh yeah. It barely even needed tuning. This thing was nice.

Jono wouldn't notice if it wandered off, would he? Probably.

Alas.

Alack!

But on the other hand... "I think she likes you." Maybe the guitar would want to stay?

Eliot raised an eyebrow at her. "We don't steal from friends, Parker," he reminded her. Then strummed the guitar again. ". . . Not permanently, anyway."

"Not permanently," Parker agreed, sounding not at all repentant.

"That would be wrong."

Sorry about your guitar, Jono.

"So. Guess I should really do this." It wasn't even the first time he'd gone up to sing in front of people in Fandom. Why was it so hard?

"You're going to be great." He always was. Parker grinned at him. "And it's not for a con or anything. So-- just do what you want." Was that really so hard, Eliot?

"Remember how Sophie can't act unless she's lyin' about it?" Eliot muttered.

This was stupid. It was just a stage. And his guitar was pretty.

"Alright. I'm goin'."

And he did.
