The zombies were back to making noise, and finally, worried that her poor daughter was going to end up thinking any of this was normal and okay, she'd gone ahead and gotten headphones to hook up to her phone and put directly on her stomach.

Sure it looked weird. But it was for the greater good.

Even if she still had to listen to whatever this was.

"A dozen or so mainland military veterans, and possibly Kanan, if he shows up," Kaidan said, shrugging self-consciously, "I found a mixed martial arts gym run by veterans. Dragged Kanan last week, he thought it might be good practice."

"Oh yeah, you'll need that." And she trusted Kanan not to be joining in on it, too. "That's cool, though. Baltimore?"

"Suburb of," Kaidan agreed, "Few miles from the causeway."

He wouldn't be giving Kanan any of the alcohol, no. That was for when he was home, by himself.

Which.. was really not the best plan.

"Were there not enough fighter types on island for you?" Kitty wondered.

"There are, but all the ones I know are meta-human in either skill or strength," Kaidan admitted, "I needed to work on my own self control in a human-average setting. Plus.. I have a problem throwing punches at my friends."

It was a stupid hangup, and he was working on getting over it.

"Aww, that's cute," Kitty grinned. "I get it, though. It's hard to really get into it if you're pulling your punches."

"It also leads to training accidents, and I'm not all that fond of catching a fist or a kick because I was too worried about leaving a bruise," Kaidan said ruefully.

"I never worried about that part. If I got hit that just meant to do better the next time."

Granted, she also could totally not get hit as part of her power set.

"That's what it should mean," Kaidan agreed, "It's a stupid hangup to have. Just gotta work through it."

"It's not stupid. It's not like you're fighting friends," she pointed out. "At least, not unless everybody goes evil."
