Parents' Weekend Meet & Greet! Friday Afternoon at the Park [09/28].

As one might have suspected, the weather that afternoon was incredibly cooperative and pleasant, just the right balance of nearly everything. Funny how that always seemed to work out. And wasn't that fine weather just a perfect companion for all the decorations and tables set up around the park in anticipation of the weekend's guests, as well as for the impressive spread of food offered for those wanting a bit of a nibble.

There was, of course, glitter, but some might note that it was a bit more tastefully restrained this year.

A bit.

Stretched over the entrance to the park was a large, bold banner, leaving no question as to what all this marvelous preparation was for:

Kitty didn't have anyone coming for herself, but she liked getting a feel of who was here, mostly in case of people from her neck of the multiverse.

Plus there was food and it was nice out, so she found a spot at a table to do some people watching.

"No one in particular," Bunsen said. "I think I got my weekends mixed up! I am here searching for a lab assistant at my university for next year."

"Oh. Yeah, that's definitely not this weekend," she said, and because she was a nerd and needed to know, asked, "What kind of lab?"

"Any particular kind of science?" she tried.

"Chemistry, though I dabble in other areas as well," Bunsen said.

So many explosions, Kitty. SO MANY.

"Well, you might still be in the right place," she said. "I'm sure you could find someone here wanting to be an assistant there."

Because she didn't know about the explosions.

Bunsen looked as thrilled as a Muppet with no eyes possibly could. "That's wonderful! Perhaps I can speak with the school instructors and they can steer me in the right direction."

"You should," she agreed. "They usually hold office hours all weekend for the parents, it should be easy for you to pop in."

"Wonderful!" Bunsen said happily. "I will be eager to learn about the students here. What sort of school is this? My university only said 'eclectic.'"

"Eclectic is a good word. You've got people from everywhere here, and the classes are... also eclectic."

"Well... right now there's things like ethics and science, and also things like a Badass Bitch Survival Guide?" One day she'd have to ask Rosa some questions there. "And Cooking class might burn down the school. And I have no idea what Deadpool's doing."

Bunsen carefully wrote all of that down. "It seems like cooking might be my best lead, then."

Which gave Kitty some insight into the kind of scientist Bunsen was.
