Parents' Weekend Meet & Greet! Friday Afternoon at the Park [09/28].

As one might have suspected, the weather that afternoon was incredibly cooperative and pleasant, just the right balance of nearly everything. Funny how that always seemed to work out. And wasn't that fine weather just a perfect companion for all the decorations and tables set up around the park in anticipation of the weekend's guests, as well as for the impressive spread of food offered for those wanting a bit of a nibble.

There was, of course, glitter, but some might note that it was a bit more tastefully restrained this year.

A bit.

Stretched over the entrance to the park was a large, bold banner, leaving no question as to what all this marvelous preparation was for:

The spread of options for food and drink is wide and vast and includes a significant amount of pizza, so there should be absolutely no reason why anyone's guest should be attempting to eat other guests.

The only reason Astrid bothered coming down to the park today was for the food, since she knew there was always a ton of it at these things and it was almost always good. Her plan was simple: show up, fill up a plate, and then scurry back up to the dorms, where she'd hole up in her room for the whole weekend (well, except to maybe go get more food) to avoid any awkward or embarrassing questions anyone might have about her lack of visitors.

Everyone here seemed to mind their own business about that sort of stuff, though, so that was good. Either way, she thought about just saying she was an orphan if anyone did catch her before she could disappear again. It was practically true, anyway. Forget showing up, which she couldn't do by rule of law; Ingrid hadn't even bothered writing or calling to tell Astrid as much. She might as well be an orphan at this point, really.

Astrid glanced over at the person, a little surprised that someone would even bother talking to her. And then her eyebrows lifted slightly, because that was a very distinctive look that made her think distinctly of her old Japanese blades class. Which, really, would have been an interesting coincidence.

"The first," she said, her curiosity being the only thing keeping her from not just bolting as he said she was likely to do. "Definitely not a mouse."

Though she seemed to have said it in a rather mousey way.

"Don't have anyone coming to visit you?" Tsurumaru asked, actually sounding genuinely concerned. "That's a shame. I can imagine it's no fun to see all your friends with their families and be all alone."

Aphra didn't have any guests coming, but there was free food, so she was making the most of that.

...and glaring at her. Which was kind of hot.

Jan had breezed on past the name tag area in order to go right to the snacks and wait for either Tony or Steve to come find her. Also, it allowed her to people watch in a very diverse group.

Kitty didn't have anyone coming for herself, but she liked getting a feel of who was here, mostly in case of people from her neck of the multiverse.

Plus there was food and it was nice out, so she found a spot at a table to do some people watching.

Octavia would've laughed - darkly - at the idea that anyone might come visit her today. Nope, no one was coming, so she was just here doing what she always did.

Stocking up on food, both on her plate as well as in her pockets.

There were so many kinds of weird (read: Earth) food! Ariel simply had to try all of it she could. Hence the plate piled ridiculously high. And the one Lili was carrying was honestly mostly Ariel's as well.

"Okay," Ariel said, eyeing her rapidly-approaching-critical-mass plate critically. "I think that's enough to start."

"Oh, good," Lili said dryly. "I was worried you'd overdo it."

"She's a growing girl," Liam defended, having found his way over to them. Growing rather a lot, given that she easily passed for a human girl of seven or eight, when last year she'd looked about four.

"It's good to see you," he added, going for a hug with Lili.

When she finally pulled away, she grabbed one of Liam's- gloved- hands in hers and frowned slightly. "Liam..." she said, concern evident in her voice.

She hadn't seen him attempt to cover the shaqarava since... well, his first month or so.

Verity wasn't expecting any of her family to show up this weekend, but she knew that Liam had some of his favorite people showing up and she didn't want to miss them.

So as soon as she spotted Liam through the crowd, she was beelining over towards them, smiling bright.

...She'd never actually done this whole 'meet the family' thing. Huh. It was low-key terrifying.

Liam reached to wrap an arm around Verity's waist as she approached, pulling her close.

"Hey," he greeted. "Look who I found!" he added, with a nod at Lili and Ariel, the latter of which was still attacking that pizza with the singlemindedness of a kid determined to try one of everything.

Paris was inspecting the food to make sure it was adequate, and keeping an eye out for Nanny. Traffic from Connecticut was awful on Fridays.
