Parents' Weekend Meet & Greet! Friday Afternoon at the Park [09/28].

As one might have suspected, the weather that afternoon was incredibly cooperative and pleasant, just the right balance of nearly everything. Funny how that always seemed to work out. And wasn't that fine weather just a perfect companion for all the decorations and tables set up around the park in anticipation of the weekend's guests, as well as for the impressive spread of food offered for those wanting a bit of a nibble.

There was, of course, glitter, but some might note that it was a bit more tastefully restrained this year.

A bit.

Stretched over the entrance to the park was a large, bold banner, leaving no question as to what all this marvelous preparation was for:

"Really?" Steve whispered back. "My version strikes me as the kind who would burn the place down by shoving too many waffles in the toaster."

"Nooo, that's Clint." NEVER STOP RAGGING ON THAT POOR GUY.

"We have a Clint here," Steve said. "His wife is due any second now."

He paused. "He might still burn the place down with two many waffles?"

"You are so going to introduce me to her," she said, lightly punching him in the side.

"Her name's Kitty," Steve said, "and she's pretty swell. You'll love her."

"Anyone who married Clint must be," she decided with a definitive nod. "Boy or girl?"

"Girl," Steve said.

"A little baby Clintette," Jan said, clutching her hands to her chest like the preciousness was too much for her.

"She'll probably be shooting arrows before she can walk," Steve said fondly.

"I don't know if that's terrifying or cute," she admitted.

"About fifty-fifty," Steve said. "I'll probably get them a blanket or something not a weapon."

"Maybe a bow and arrow teething ring." She was totally buying cute baby clothes to pass onto them for the baby shower now.

"Do they sell those?" Steve said. "Maybe on Etsy?"

"I know people," she replied, already planning it out.

"Of course you do," Steve said fondly.

This would only end in tears and way, way too many toys. "I'll text you my contacts."

Steve kissed her cheek. "You're the best. Thank you. Want the nickel tour of the island?"

"Does this tour involve a lot of stairs?" Because she'd end up flying in that case.

"Unfortunately, yes," Steve said. "My legs are in amazing shape."

"Mine are shapely enough," she replied primly. "I'm shrinking down and riding on your shoulder."

Steve laughed. "That'll be a new thing for me. Do I need to whisper while I give the tour?"

"It'd be nice, but I've bean around Thor and The Hulk." Inside voices weren't applicable for them.

"That is a good point. They don't really do quiet," Steve agreed.

"We can tell any students you run into that you have a fairy friend."

Oh. Oh, Jan. That wasn't a shocking thing around here.

"They'd want to know if that was a thing today, and probably wonder where their fairy friends were," Steve said with a laugh. "This place is...odd."
