Parents' Weekend Meet & Greet! Friday Afternoon at the Park [09/28].

As one might have suspected, the weather that afternoon was incredibly cooperative and pleasant, just the right balance of nearly everything. Funny how that always seemed to work out. And wasn't that fine weather just a perfect companion for all the decorations and tables set up around the park in anticipation of the weekend's guests, as well as for the impressive spread of food offered for those wanting a bit of a nibble.

There was, of course, glitter, but some might note that it was a bit more tastefully restrained this year.

A bit.

Stretched over the entrance to the park was a large, bold banner, leaving no question as to what all this marvelous preparation was for:

Tseng sighed as he stepped up to the registration table, signed his name, and took... one of three nametags with his name on it. He frowned a little bit. That was a very specific misprint, wasn't it?

In any case, he shook it off and turned sharply to look around the picnic, frowning as he scanned the crowd for Rufus. His charge (sigh) hadn't done his radio broadcast this morning, which meant he could be anywhere.

So help him, if he'd come all the way to the island just to find out that Rufus was in a different reality right now, he'd be so very put out.

He squinted.

He shook his head. This damn island. The sooner he spent his time checking up on Iris (and Zack, though he'd never admit to it) and got to go back to work in Midgar, the better.

But first, breakfast, he supposed.

He took the last of the nametags with his name on it, smoothed it over his chest, and then, still smiling vaguely (if almost imperceptibly) to himself, made his way into the crowd.

He still hated this island. But it was good to see that Reno's chosen home at the moment was, at the very least, more baffling than his own.

Lieutenant-formerly-Captain Magna Tolvan was engaged in a battle of wills over the fact she wanted to register under her own name rather than under the utterly asinine one on the invitation that had found its way to her.

The individual behind the desk looked supremely unimpressed at her invoking the authority of the Empire and handed her a nametag that read 'Cute Imperial'.

Someone would pay for this.

A red robed, floating apparition sort of floated on through the area. Then stopped and went back to attempt a name tag. It stuck to it's skeletal fingers until the poor, poor being gave up.

Darth Vowrawn continued to be somewhat amused by this entire thing, and stepped up to sign his name - after seeing the others were in High Galactic, he perversely signed his in Sith - and pick up a...sticky thing. "Are you sure this won't leave residue all over my robes?"

He wasn't convinced, but he gamely put it on anyway.

Gabe showed up, signed his name, and got a name tag.

He briefly considered making one up for Ma just to scare the crap out of Miguel, but he wasn't sure how long he could pull that off for, so in the end, he didn't.

Ben couldn't help but goggle at the castle rising up in the near distance. "That's where Uma goes to school?" he asked.

The Fairy Godmother fussed over his nametag, writing His Majesty, King over where it otherwise said 'Ben' and then placed it carefully on his lapel. "I wonder who she had to brainwash to get in here," she sniffed, adding her own and then looking around for the criminal in question. "And put your crown back on, Ben. We're here to represent Auradon and to smooth over however many diplomatic incidents that she's caused while she's here."

Tsurumaru had... slipped away from Mitsutada after the class this morning and now was roaming free.

That would probably not end well.

He took his name tag and grinned. This was going to be fun.

It didn't take long for Lili to find her nametag.

"Look, Ari, you get one this year, too," she pointed out to her daughter. "I guess whoever arranges all this figured you'd be big enough to warrant one this time around."

She didn't know how they'd know that, given that Jaridians (and half-Jaridians, apparently) aged so differently than humans, but she also didn't know how it was possible that the two of them could even survive Earth's atmosphere for a weekend. But they had last year, and so there was no way she'd miss the chance to be back here again, even if it wasn't really home.

After parking her RV, Xylda made her way to the park, signed in, and dutifully stuck her nametag to her cardigan. She didn't expect to see Manny at this little shindig--she was going to have to track down his dorm room and drag him out of the glow of his computer screen, she just knew it--but that didn't mean she couldn't enjoy it.

Now. Who looked like a mark?

Dr. Bunsen Honeydew was under the impression he was here for a college fair rather than a family reunion, but since there was a nametag all ready for him, he stuck it onto his labcoat and started looking for candidates for his lab assistant.

Hopefully they would be fire resistant.

The spread of options for food and drink is wide and vast and includes a significant amount of pizza, so there should be absolutely no reason why anyone's guest should be attempting to eat other guests.

The only reason Astrid bothered coming down to the park today was for the food, since she knew there was always a ton of it at these things and it was almost always good. Her plan was simple: show up, fill up a plate, and then scurry back up to the dorms, where she'd hole up in her room for the whole weekend (well, except to maybe go get more food) to avoid any awkward or embarrassing questions anyone might have about her lack of visitors.

Everyone here seemed to mind their own business about that sort of stuff, though, so that was good. Either way, she thought about just saying she was an orphan if anyone did catch her before she could disappear again. It was practically true, anyway. Forget showing up, which she couldn't do by rule of law; Ingrid hadn't even bothered writing or calling to tell Astrid as much. She might as well be an orphan at this point, really.

Jan had breezed on past the name tag area in order to go right to the snacks and wait for either Tony or Steve to come find her. Also, it allowed her to people watch in a very diverse group.

Kitty didn't have anyone coming for herself, but she liked getting a feel of who was here, mostly in case of people from her neck of the multiverse.

Plus there was food and it was nice out, so she found a spot at a table to do some people watching.

Octavia would've laughed - darkly - at the idea that anyone might come visit her today. Nope, no one was coming, so she was just here doing what she always did.

There were so many kinds of weird (read: Earth) food! Ariel simply had to try all of it she could. Hence the plate piled ridiculously high. And the one Lili was carrying was honestly mostly Ariel's as well.

"Okay," Ariel said, eyeing her rapidly-approaching-critical-mass plate critically. "I think that's enough to start."

"Oh, good," Lili said dryly. "I was worried you'd overdo it."

Paris was inspecting the food to make sure it was adequate, and keeping an eye out for Nanny. Traffic from Connecticut was awful on Fridays.

Sidon had to admit, he was incredibly relieved that he would not be tasked with having to babysit some cranky Zora Elder this year, though he doubted anyone would be as much of a handful as Muzu had been. The royal advisor had decided to opt out of visiting this time around, thank goodness! Even without a visitor of his own, though, Sidon was eager to see and possibly meet some of the visitors of his friends, and he always did love these events, especially now that he'd helped set them up as a part of the student council.

If anything, he knew he would at the very least make for an interesting conversational topic for those visitors a little less accustomed to giant red sharkmen.

Shadowy Corners - PW 2018

Despite being outside and fairly open, the island always has a spot for those who'd rather prefer a gloomier place to linger, be it for brooding, moping, sulking, or just general skulking about.
