Parents' Weekend Meet & Greet! Friday Afternoon at the Park [09/28].

As one might have suspected, the weather that afternoon was incredibly cooperative and pleasant, just the right balance of nearly everything. Funny how that always seemed to work out. And wasn't that fine weather just a perfect companion for all the decorations and tables set up around the park in anticipation of the weekend's guests, as well as for the impressive spread of food offered for those wanting a bit of a nibble.

There was, of course, glitter, but some might note that it was a bit more tastefully restrained this year.

A bit.

Stretched over the entrance to the park was a large, bold banner, leaving no question as to what all this marvelous preparation was for:

"Hi, nice to finally get to meet you both," Verity said, holding out her hand. To Ariel, she added, "Sewers are underground tunnels for sanitation. Definitely nowhere you wanna spend time if you have a choice."

See! A perfectly G-rated answer! The Prices had a thing about answering questions from little kids. Not always truthfully, depending on who was doing the asking and what the questions were, but at least plausibly.

“Sounds gross,” Ariel said.

“Same here,” Lili said, taking the offered hand and clasping it firmly. “Liam talks about you a lot,” she added, clearly sizing Verity up as she spoke.

Okay, if Lili wasn't going to be subtle about sizing her up, neither was Verity. Her grip was strong, but not obnoxiously so, with callouses in very weird places if you didn't know about some of her other extracurricular activities.

"Hopefully just enough to keep me firmly on the 'can't wait to meet her' end of things and not the 'oh god not her again,'" she said lightly.

"Definitely the former," Lili assured her. Her own hand was warmer than human normal, but otherwise there wasn't anything about her that said she was anything but, well, a normal human.

"He sent pictures, too!" Ariel piped up, helpfully.

"He did send pictures," Lili confirmed. "Ikea's certainly changed since I've been offplanet."

And, heck, she could just be a really warm normal human! Verity saw the size of that plate she'd been toting. That kind of aerobic exercise could bring anybody's temperature up.

...Though normal humans didn't wander around the solar system in a Taelon mothership, it was true.

"Ikea's changed since I've been in Oregon," Verity said with a laugh. "I don't remember quite that many nightmare-inducing couches back in the one near my hometown."
