The beach, Saturday night

The weather wasn't too bad, the holidays were over, and there were new people in town. Clearly, they needed a new meeting of the drunk and bored club!

Miguel showed up, dumped his case of decent beer in the sand, and set about making a nice big fire.

If anybody showed up, he'd be ready!

If not, he could always just drink the beer.

Fenris could see the fire from where he was and, since he'd only ever seen a fire on the beach for the drunk and bored club, he ducked into Costco and picked up some cheap but decent whiskey, bourbon, and a six pack of something that looked like a soft drink. That's basically what wine coolers were, right?

He prowled on over, actually wearing shoes instead of his usual barefoot theme, and added his alcohol to the pile. "Miguel. Bored?"

"Always." Miguel toasted him with a beer. "Not drunk yet, though. How about you?"

"Always bored, stone cold sober at the moment," Fenris said and cranked the top off the bourbon so he could toast Miguel back. And work on the sober part. "But that can be fixed. Are you teaching this term?"

"Science," Miguel said, "yeah. Seem to have a good group of kids, though. What are you up to - still over at the flower shop?"

Fenris nodded, "Yes. There's not a lot of call for the other job skills I have and the flowers and plants are pretty forgiving. Peter is very patient." He took a swig and made a face, "The closest thing I've had to a fight in months were snowmen."

Fjord was here, naturally. As co-founder of the club, it really wouldn't do for him to not be.

And, as was to be expected, he'd brought beer.

The less decent kind. Less because he didn't know any better at this point, and more because it was really just to be expected.

He did bring a decent bottle of whiskey to make up for it, though. He figured if he worked his way through it, that could keep his mind off of the fact that it was only one day since he'd told Fenris he'd try to stop filing his tusks, and already he was crawling out of his own skin about it.

"Hey, Fjord!" Miguel held up a bottle of beer in a toast. "How've you been?"

"Thankful that I don't have to hear the word 'Christmas' for another full year," Fjord replied easily, setting his box of beer down and then raising the whiskey in greeting. "People weren't kidding when they said this place went all-out for the holiday."

Miguel laughed. "Yeah, it really did. No ugly sweaters, though, so at least there's that. How's class going?"

Fenris gave him a sour look. "You bought shit beer again?"

"Well, yeah," Fjord replied, smirking a little. "By this point, it's tradition."

Wouldn't want anybody to mistake him for somebody with standards, right?

"I will open it and pour it into the sand before I let you bring it back to the room," Fenris declared, and added, "Besides, there's no room in the fridge right now. You filled it with spaghetti."

No, parkouring over that rock wasn't strictly necessary, but come on; of course Beau was going to do that, bottle of beer in hand and everything, the little showoff.

"Yeah, I kinda forgot what day your class was so I didn't make it up this week, but how'd it go?"

"It's the day before forge day," Fjord replied, watching that show of acrobatics with a faintly impressed raise of his eyebrows. Well, then. "And I'd say it went fairly well. The students were mostly receptive to the idea of it, I think, and there was a pretty decent array of choices when it comes to what the students have decided they want to present themselves as."

Well, two rogues, but that seemed to track around here anyway.

Beau did a quick bit of mental math -- or not so quick, really. "Before forge day -- so Grissen, or whatever the fuck it's called here? I don't know. Second day of the week, whatever. This calendar still confuses me."

It was really a shame she hadn't had time to have stopped by. She'd have given him so much crap about the ball pit and the malfunctioning water.

"Kinda wonder if they're gonna, like, eat each other by the end of the term, though? It could happen."

Or a TPK, that could happen too.

Since the first meeting she'd been expecting had gotten derailed by snow monsters, Beau had been kind of waiting for this.

She had a couple of bottles of her new favorite, tequila, and a couple of bottles of reasonably priced but pretty good wine -- which was easy enough to pick out when you'd grown up around the winemaking industry.

"Fenris, 'sup." Beau nodded at him. "I was gonna say drunk and bored, but that's kinda way too easy of a joke. I mean, it's true, but."

"Did you start before you got here? I think that's cheating," Fenris smirked. He glanced curiously at the bottles. "What kind of wine did you bring? Not much up with me. Just the usual. Had some sort of awful plague last week, didn't die. Went to the bar Friday to chat with Fjord, wound up talking to one of the nits who made the mistake of flirting with him, had some unexpected spaghetti."

A beat.

"You know, regular shit."

"Finally, right? I was expecting this to happen a couple of weeks ago but snow monsters are assholes, I guess." Beau looked through the selections of booze, gave the wine coolers a severe side-eye, and got herself a red plastic cup and a helping of bourbon instead. "Aw, shit, man, I forgot a corkscrew. Someone here's gotta have one, right?"

There was no corkscrew.
