The Devil's Nest [Friday night]

It was cold, dark, and threatening to snow, which was Eric's favorite kind of weather, which was why he was in an excellent mood as he wandered down to the Devil's Nest to make sure Tiny was manning the bar to his satisfaction.

The new DJ (it was always a new DJ) looked panicked as Eric came in, stammering something about equipment malfunctions and how very sorry he was before fleeing into the night, leaving the bar listening to "If You Like Piña Coladas" --and only that song--at a volume that was just too loud to be ignorable.

"If you make piña coladas a special tonight, I will snap your neck," Eric told Tiny flatly before disappearing to his normal seat in the VIP area.

The Devil's Nest was open. And verrrrry tired of walks in the rain already.

"You've maybe threatened to once or twice," Jaina admitted. "Or she has. Whatever."

“You know, I was going to say I’m getting ahead of myself,” Tahiri said, “but apparently it’s the other way around. Tell her I said good job, okay?”

A description that did not apply to that terrible joke.

"I'm absolutely not encouraging her," Jaina said.

“Well, maybe the next time I come visit,” Tahiri teased. Well. She was maybe a little bit serious. “You know, I didn’t think there was anything going on when I decided to stop by for the day. Was there some special event and I missed the announcement somehow?”

As if there would have been flyers for the GFFAcon or something.

Next year there would be flyers for GFFACon.

"I think some of us knew about it and some of us didn't," Jaina answered. "I'm just glad everyone seemed to get here."

“There seem to be a lot more people from our galaxy than I remember,” Tahiri remarked, with a brief cautious glance in Lana’s direction. “Not that it’s a bad thing, I’m just — wow, I leave for a few years, and I turn around and all of a sudden it’s everyone, you know?”

If those flyers didn’t have the text scrolling up into the top edge of the paper it would be a grievous oversight.

Obviously.

"On the plus side, there don't seem to be strange relatives popping up." This was important. "That makes it better."

Slightly.

"That is a relief," Tahiri agreed, then frowned. "But it also feels a little weird at the same time."

"I actually sort of wish I could spend more time here," Jaina admitted. "I really got to meet a couple people here from the last time we did this in other visits and wouldn't mind getting to know more about them and knowing who else is around here. It's just having the time."

"The occasional drawbacks of being an empress, I guess," Tahiri said. "I've been thinking a bit about coming back to teach for a while this summer, so maybe I'll have a chance then. It'd be a bonus if you managed to stop by once or twice, too."

That was a bit of an understatement. Tahiri would be absolutely thrilled if it happened.

"Do it," Jaina said. "I'll get here, bring the kids."

"Well, now I'm going to actively consider it instead of just poking at the idea," Tahiri said, laughing. "But what would I teach? I haven't thought that far."

"I'm sure we can come up with something," Jaina said. "Since this is happening now."

“You just want more of an excuse to come visit, I bet,” Tahiri said, shaking her head, “but sure, Master Solo, I’m always ready to hear your advice.”

Jaina smiled. "Remember this when you're getting ideas texted at random."
