Caritas- Tuesday (both daytime and after dark)

Kitty actually kind of hoped no one came in today because it meant they weren't out in the dark when it was terrible. She, of course, could just not be solid and not get into trouble, and she worked at a place where people who couldn't do that could be safe from whatever was out there.

So she was here, and preparing for a boring night. Boring was fine.

...She bet it wouldn't be too boring.

[Open! Caritas should be open before sunset so the alarm would go off during the shift. Please specify when you're coming in!

"She's always there doing things when a real crisis hits that doesn't just disappear and make room for the next one when the week is over," said Rosa with a shrug, "which is more than you can say for most politicians."

She was a cop from New York. Her bar was set pretty low.

Regina shook her head. "Any mayor worth her salt should be right in the middle of things when they go pear-shaped."

That's what she'd always done. Sure, at first that was because she tended to be the cause of the crisis, but that was beside the point.

"Yeah, well," said Rosa, "this place not only goes pear-shaped, but also apple-, kumquat-, banana-, and kiwi-shaped just about every five, ten minutes, so....I wouldn't regret investing in McHotness salt at all."

Regina nodded at that, mulling it over, and finished her drink.

"Where the hell did that curse land me?"

It was mostly rhetorical. She had really, really been hoping she'd be done with the giant, life-altering, monster-filled curses by now.

Ahahaha. Hahaha. Ha.

Good one, Mills.

"Fandom Island," Rosa sighed as she still provided an answer because, hey, you never did know when you were talking to someone who had no idea whatsoever what they were about to plunge themselves into, and she lifted her beer as if in a toast. "It sucks, but, hey, at least the safest place on the island also has booze."

And there went down another one.

"Oh, and also?" she added, since apparently, she was feeling helpful. "Don't try to attack anyone in here or else you'll end up in the pond in the park. Or the alley, I hear, but it always sends me to the pond."

Because it was always, always funnier that way.

Regina's eyebrows went up at that. That sounded like a very useful spell. She was going to have to see if Kitty could share the details.

"You attack people a lot, Detective Diaz?"

Rosa took a moment to look at Regina, then took a moment to look very pointedly at her blood-and-probably-a-lot-worse-splattered shirt.

"No," she said, "I'm a pascifist. I wouldn't hurt a fly."

Regina gave her a pointed look right back. "Attacking those things isn't the same as attacking people."

If it were, her carefully rebuilt karma was screwed just having walked over here from the diner.

Which was an excellent counterpoint, and Rosa had to actually put a little effort into keeping a smirk down.

"No," she said, again, but this time actually sincere, "not often. Only when it's pretty much deserved."

And just the one person, too, actually, now that she thought about it.

"There was also," she added, partly to distract from that point, and also, because it might be helpful, "this one time when I got stuck halfway in the bar, and I figured kicking someone would be the best way to get out of it short of sending for a chainsaw."

"Now that's almost clever," Regina said. ". . . How do you get stuck halfway into a bar?"
died8yearsago: (with a beer)

Rosa shrugged, shaking her head at the futility of trying to explain something like that. "I just...did," she said. "Physics decided to take a break that day. I came in, leaned into my usual spot, kept leaning in a little further, until I stopped, halfway through, and then couldn't get back out again. Right over there, actually," she nodded down the bar. "I switched spots after that."

Regina eyed the indicated spot. It didn't look particularly magical to her, but she made a mental note to avoid it either way. This curse was certainly going to be anything but boring, even in the "safest place" in town.

"Sounds like you handled that, then," she said. "Though it's good to know that not even the inanimate objects can be trusted around here."
