Summer didn't want to ask.

She really, really didn't want to ask, but ever since she came in that night, Tino had been acting very quiet and weird and introspective, like he was contemplating something very deep and mysterious, to the point where it was sort of affecting his work performance, and, despite the fact that she knew she would regret it, the curiousity managed to get the better of Summer, and she went ahead and opened that dangerous can of worms called 'asking Tino what was on his mind'.

"It's just that," he started, brow creasing with distress and worry, "what if cats and dogs had opposable thumbs??"

Summer just shook her head and went to go work at the other end of the bar, because, really, really, she only had herself to blame, she should have known better.

"He was just trying to justify it. Poorly." Stark shook his head. "I agree with you. Mattresses are an excellent invention and should be used when possible. I was very happy to see mine again."

"Hell," said Summer, "I was glad to see my bed when we got back, and I even had beds. But, I will say this, my beds in Japan didn't have my cat."

Even if Pancakes was always a little snooty at her for a little while whenever she got back from a lengthly trip.

"No cats on my bed. Just blankets and pillows I didn't have to fight over. That's plenty. Was she glad to see you when you got back?"

Stark didn't spend much time around cats.

"She always gives me the cold shoulder when I first get back from a trip," Summer said, smiling fondly, "but she warms up again pretty fast. I think it helped this time around that I had Tisarwat looking after her instead of just kenneling her at the shelter all week. She doesn't really like going back there if it can be helped, I think."

"They probably make her share a room there," Stark said, picking up the first of his Jello shots to cover a smile.

"Like all the cruelest of room organizers will," Summer said with a laugh. "Although, really, that's probably not too far from the truth."
